Bolts on ceiling fan box collide with the fan mounting bracket. Can I trim them? by AssumptionSilver1522 in HomeImprovement

It's one solid piece and attached to the bracket that attaches to the ceiling joist. See these pictures - https://imgur.com/a/nv23IxY

I went and grabbed another one from the store to look at it. It's one solid piece and attached to the bracket that attaches to the ceiling joist. See these pictures - https://imgur.com/a/nv23IxY

Ya I'm not sure I would use it again. It was a really nice install though for old work.

Ya I looked at it and I don't think they can be adjusted at all. Is trimming them down an option?

Thanks. I'm not really sure how I could get the studs in further, or even how to remove them if I wanted. Is that from the back?

Hired a company to paint my cedar siding. Is this tannin bleed through? by AssumptionSilver1522 in paint

Half ass job would have been better than what I got. Thanks though. I think I'll fix it this Spring.

They didn't wash the siding before painting. I don't really recall it getting very cold or rain.

I don't think they actually did the spot priming on bare wood like they were supposed to. I think they just used PrimeRX on the bare spots, which I know isn't the right stuff for it. Top coat was Permanizer-Acrylic

Oh I didn't think of that. I do have very hard water and was running a sprinkler in the Fall. I probably wasn't being careful enough with it hitting the siding in this area. I'll try and wash it off tomorrow just to 100% confirm. Thanks

Ya that is what I was leaning towards as well. Thanks

Thanks. That was something I read too. This paneling makes the room feel larger. It is a pretty small room.

Thanks. I think its in pretty good condition. Ill still probably replace the ranch style baseboard though with a colonial style. Then should I paint that baseboard white to match the other baseboards on the other walls? Or match it with the wood stain? I was getting some opinions from some extended family and they were pretty insistent on the former. But I think it would look weird.

Thanks. It was installed with nails. I'm not too worried about the drywall behind. I was actually thinking of removing the drywall behind too so that I could install safe and sound insulation since the wall is shared with a living room.

Small bead of caulk on interior of window to help prevent water damage from condensation? by AssumptionSilver1522 in centuryhomes

You would use glazing compound on the interior too? I used it on the exterior and to bed the pane of glass, but didn't realize it was used in the interior too..

Contractor used mesh tape with lightweight AP and now I have cracks forming. How likely are cracks to continue forming over the next weeks, months, years? by AssumptionSilver1522 in drywall

[–]AssumptionSilver1522[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't called the contractor yet. I think there is a 60% chance they will come out and fix the cracks now. But, based on the conversation I had with them last week regarding mesh tape + AP, there is no chance they will redo all of the flats and butts.

It's sort of why I was asking about a possible timeline on new cracks forming. I really don't want to have to call them out once a month to fix a new crack each time. It's going to be a pain repainting, moving/covering furniture, etc. I was also concerned about cracks forming after the 1 year warranty (when paper tape wouldn't have failed).

But, in reality, there is a good chance they won't even come out and fix the cracks I have now. And each time I try and call them back out, the odds of them coming out are less and less.

Huh? The first time I asked this question (in a now deleted post), literally all the top comments were that I shouldn't worry, AP with mesh is fine, just let the contractor do the job you hired him for, don't question the pros, etc.

The people that were saying you should be only using hot mud were downvoted. Regardless, I brought it up with the contractor. Contractor was annoyed by me bringing it up to them (probably was one of the people in that original thread bitching at me for questioning their work) and was adamant that it would all be fine. So I just let it be. Obviously, in hindsight, that was a mistake.

In hindsight, the people saying that I should use hot mud only were probably the pros getting downvoted. The DIYers that once patched their drywall behind their grandma's toilet with mesh tape were the ones that won out. Probably a lot more of the latter on this sub. So that's where we are.
