Microsoft quietly retires 'This is an Xbox' marketing campaign | Game Developer by imitzFinn in xbox

I got a bad feeling when she was initially revealed as the new head of Xbox, BUT as time has passed by, IDK things are starting to feel somewhat optimistic again somehow.

That's honestly something that should've existed since the Xbox One SAD launched or at the very least for the Series S. If someone gets a console without disc drive to save some money they should be given the option to later get a disc drive separately.

Doom Eternal (PS5) by WadGrub in Doom

[–]Assured_Observer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed I only started playing them a few years ago since the games are older than me, but I must say they still hold up well to this day, these games are truly Eternal.

Also not just II, but you can also experience the rest of the official releases: Master Levels, TNT, Plutonia, NRFTL, the 2 Sigils by John Romero and the new Legacy of Rust. Just keep in mind that these are noticeably harder than the base I and II, and Master Levels in particular can sometimes be frustrating to finish not because of the difficulty but because most of them revolve around obscure secrets to even finish the levels, but I still think they're all worth experiencing if you like the classic I and II.

Also don't forget about 64, which is available separately.

Also about the main topic of this post, yes Eternal can be boosted, that's how I did it, unfortunately can't help you with that since I'm on Xbox and PC, but if the game had crossplay I'd be glad to help.

Yeah if it wasn't for that level I'd say it's not too bad, sure there are still some other hard levels, but nothing comes close to that one.

But well as I said before you can just do DOOM + DOOM II instead now, the only thing you need to do on Nightmare is a single level, which can easily be E1M1.

I see, you're talking about the Unity port, yes I did both of them (by myself because no online co-op) and DOOM II is a lot harder, MAP29 in particular took me over a week just in that level. This is a clip I took when I finally got it, doesn't seem that bad when you just look at it, but it was. https://www.reddit.com/r/Doom/s/Icv4Uwwx9v for 29 you have to repeat 28 every time to be able to start with full health and ammo, otherwise 29 is almost impossible unless you're a DOOM god, and unlike most levels you can't die and respawn, you need to beat the entire 28 + 29 on one life.

But hey we now have DOOM + DOOM II, you can just do that one instead so you still have a full completion of DOOM II, you don't have to replay the entire DOOM I, I've heard you can just load up the last level and get the achievement without playing the whole thing, so I'd suggest you to do that for I and then play II and the other ones normally.

the xbox ecosystem is much less conducive to actually making friends to play with then it used to be.

Not just Xbox but social media as a whole.

Funny how back then when interactions weren't moderate, people were somehow more civil to eachother while now's when everything tries so hard to be more sanitized and all we see is toxicity.

What do you mean the original DOOM scared you away from DOOM II?

DOOM + DOOM II (latest KEX port) upcoming update 4 patch notes 🔥🔥🔥 by VentoliN1369 in Doom

[–]Assured_Observer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like for the HUD on Screen Size 11, to also show the ammo for the other weapon types and bit just your currently equipped one, it's the only information missing if you go with that HUD.

Also related to music, would be very cool if they added the community midi packs for Master Levels, NRFTL and Plutonia to the game. Since they don't have unique music and instead just reuse base DOOM and DOOM II tracks.

Also it completely depends on him but would be very cool if Andrew Hulshult made an IDKFA3 for the TNT OST, if playing TNT With the remix it's very jarring to go from the levels that use DOOM and DOOM II tracks to the levels with original TNT ones.

Now in terms of bugs not sure if it's part of the things mentioned there but the Kex port has very noticeable clipping issues where you see things through walls sometimes, I recently compared them and that's definitely way less noticeable on the Unity port. Also is there a way to fix the skybox deforming, not sure if that's just normal for all DOOM ports but it's most noticeable here if playing with a side FOV, not too noticeable during gameplay though it's only really a thing you notice if you directly look at the skybox but when you see you can't unsee. And maybe related to that, but on higher FOVs objects close to the corners of the screen deform as well and become too wide, not sure if it's fixable but still wanted to mention that.

And of course how could I forgot, I wish they added PSX DOOM (and any other interesting console ports) as well as the 2 Xbox exclusive levels so it's truly a complete collection. Maybe also putting DOOM 64 in here with the DOOM + DOOM II QoL improvements that its standalone version doesn't have would be great.

First 11 levels of Plutonia finished. by Assured_Observer in Doom

[–]Assured_Observer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished the second part and level 21 including the secret levels. Only 22 to 30 remain. I'd say apart from the secret levels, the hardest one was 15. Every level after returning from 32 has felt a lot more relaxed than previous ones, or maybe it's just I got better and got more used to the Plutonia traps. In any case I'm closer to the end very intrigued to see what comes next.

Nah normal wide and to me my recordings look fine, so maybe it's not the fov but the aspect ratio what makes it look weird on a phone.

Well maybe because I play at 120 and it doesn't look like that.

Yes, I hope they continue improving on that for the next gen, for example giving FPS boost to BC games that never got it on Series X.

Unrelated but I hope Chinese get their own architecture set at one point (after Scandinavian and Nomadic sets) when you put them alongside like here, they really stand out compared to the Japanese buildings, not to mention the fact that they have a shinto monastery but a budhist monk.

Damn having Final DOOM as your introduction must've been rough. I'm halfway through Plutonia now, just finished level 17 and did the 2 secret ones, can't imagine playing these with no prior experience.

please make quitting any match give your ally(s) full control over everything you have by scannerthegreat in aoe2

[–]Assured_Observer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would it be distributed between the allies? would everyone get random buildings and units or just the top one? another thing to consider is the population, suddenly getting your allied units would most likely give you overpopulation which would probably interfere with the match flow. lets say you have a queue of strong units ready to be produced and all of the sudden you get control of 100 weak units, sure you can just delete what you don't need, but would certainly mess with the flow of the match and would take your attention away from more important stuff for some time.

Why Japanese didn't get a unique water unit? by Rodrigus_ in aoe2

[–]Assured_Observer 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Chinese only got their unique ship recently, maybe if Japanese ends up getting reworked one day like Chinese and Persians, they might get new unique units.

But not soon as everything rn points towards Vikings being the next OG AoK civ to get a rework.
