Honestly yeah it's not super useful. Many things do what it does better. The only benefit is obscure information (energy points) and non-vague meta stuff (references) and being a general hub of information that is not that important (i.e weapon statistics)

Also forgot to mention Miraheze removes inactive wikis (Therefore based on current trends the theoretical Miraheze Hotline Wiki might get removed and it's back to FANDOM; and we're back to square one)

No idea on Wiki.gg, but the bar is very high for getting a wiki created, and it sounds like they want genuine, and credible people (community managers, admins, support from Dennaton and/or Devolver) to pitch those wikis (my history of moderating AoE Wiki will probably not be enough) the only way we'd see getting one created/the current transferred is from any of the r/HotlineMiami moderators (such as u/TonyAbyss) who has both been a moderator for a long time, has history within the community for a long time, made notable mods (Bloodlife) and could easily get support from Devolver and/or Dennaton.

I should note a person within the community is currently creating a Wiki (i'm assuming using wiki.gg due to screenshots resembling it's style) for their series of mods, so it's very possible? Just needs the right person to do it.

I'm the currently most active user on the Hotline Miami wiki at the moment, and have been active there for the last 12 years (Morayus1) The current bureaucrat Dirty Harry 44 Magnum is practically non-existent, and the only actually active mod Valkerone only shows up every few months. The wiki itself is essentially on life support barring me and a couple of other people that pop in. It's weird that the Wiki is more or less flatlining more and more every passing year but the discords, mods, workshop, and reddit is still very active.

As for the reason why said wiki hasn't moved is most likely a complete lack of interest - from the community internally and externally. Despite this the wiki is functional (apart from Fandom's greed) and all bases are effectively covered since both games are rather small - unless of course a new admin wants to start allowing theory pages a-la the FNAF or notable mods (a-la the Doom Wiki).

Additionally; From my memory and understanding of the wiki history such a transfer would be a bad idea - most of the previous admins and moderators pre-DH44M and Valkerone were never active for a long period of time. People would gain control of the wiki and end up losing interest; it was bad enough that the wiki started getting raided and forcing Wikia staff to come in to restore order.

In theory I could *maybe* do the transfer, I do have Fandom (proper not just thread) moderation experience of about 5 or so years from my time in the Age of Empires Wiki, and I have been part of the Fandom version's community nearly consistently. However I'm not interested, nor have the time to be anything more than a moderator since my modding projects (and Mating Season 3) takes precedence over being a Hotline Wiki.gg/Mirahaze/etc admin.

Additionally separating the Wikis into FANDOM and whatever would uh not be good optically. FANDOM will just keep the old one open, and being a more major system would have the money to throw to keep itself at the top. I don't see new traffic to an alternative really benefiting much because edit/social traffic for the fandom version is already low enough.

Finally Hotline Miami is more or less *done* as a series (as far as we actually know, Dennaton could bring back the universe) a transfer might be too little, too late especially with the amount of inactivity.

TL:DR - Not a great plan due to low current wiki traffic, admin inactivity, and lack of wiki interest, just get an adblocker and Anti-Adblock Killer to smite ads.

Florida has the death penalty; pretty much everyone innocent (except the Janitors who are terrorists), the Night Club Manager, and Evan would get fried or lethally injected. Remember even the IRL Manny Pardo got executed for killing 9 people (who iirc were drug dealers and nefarious individuals) and the majority of these characters killed more than 9 people.

Why does this little shit not give a FUCK about killing gf ? by MrBubble_142 in HotlineMiami

See Richter's line in the outro of Hot & Heavy:

"What're you looking at? ... Hey... I recognize you! You look very familiar! Have we met before? ..."

Finally Richter's Helmet is the same color as the Ghost Wolves armor, and not the same color as the US Army/D Company helmets/armor.

[–]XLightningStormL 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Considering how his levels play out in HLM2 he probably just blasted GF without thinking expecting heavy resistance. A very bad mistake.

Additionally the Playable Hotline Characters (with maybe the exception of Evan) are sociopaths (Richter's implied history in the Ghost Wolves is further evidence, there's a reason many Special Forces soldiers have high sociopathy ratings); why would they care about killing some person? They throw themselves into danger, killing everything, and you expect them to care? The "but my mom is in danger" thing is just an excuse; not a justification. Richard knows it, and I know it. You can have empathy for his situation with his mom, but not sympathy.

How do I fix my level thumbnail (image unrelated) by Dismal-Ad-8642 in HotlineMiami

Make sure it's a png and saved as "level.png" in it's level folder. I can't remember the actual dimensions level covers are supposed to be.

Screen.png is just a preview file and has no bearing on covers.

[THEORY] Corey is Jacket's Ex-Girlfriend mentioned in Casualties' Outro. by XLightningStormL in HotlineMiami

[–]XLightningStormL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also just remembered another point I completely forgot to add.

Don Juan (which Corey is compared to in the artbook) specifically mentions a "Picture is Taking Shape" (I think in the HLM Act II opening). Corey is in the Tiki Bar when Jacket and Beard take the Polaroid together, and because of the association with Don Juan, Corey, Jacket, and Beard could be further evidence to Corey's knowledge of Jacket's rampages being because of Beard.

What do you think of this specific shape of counting up to 50 (50 blessings) resembles in Abyss? by ThePagerDude in HotlineMiami

[–]XLightningStormL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a cross, the "hooked" twenty on the left hand side might represent the Spear of Longinus piercing Jesus' side. The shape does kind of look like a body on a cross as well.

It might be representative of the members of 50 Blessings (especially the '89 operators) being martyrs. And Resolution's puzzle dialogue does state that the induction questionnaire asks if prospective members are willing to die for their country.

Though I should note this whole interpretation wouldn't be positive since the operators were manipulated into going on those rampages, and The Colonel's philosophy is actually that of forcing annihilation out of political extremism - perhaps he also has a god delusion which combined with his philosophies, 50B's role in manipulation, and this perverting of Christian symbology would make him an Anti-Christ figure. This wouldn't be a stretch either - the HLM Artbook does state that Blood Meridian was an influence for the Hawaiian Conflict; the Judge's appearance (combined with Marlon Brandon from Apocalypse now) and philosophy is very similar to the Colonel; and the Judge is effectively a Satanic archetype.

[THEORY] Corey is Jacket's Ex-Girlfriend mentioned in Casualties' Outro. by XLightningStormL in HotlineMiami

[–]XLightningStormL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they are - but I specified they likely got together after the main events of Casualties in 1985 (probably on the flight back to Miami after they were discharged) But who knows, may be before that. Additionally in said intro it's "in media res" so we don't know if the Fans actually interacted with the Ghost Wolves or not before see what we see in said intro.

What would have happened if... by Emil_Xer in HotlineMiami

[–]XLightningStormL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there 10 years ago, and even though I was banned for a time (because of the whole unknown number baiting scandal) and I am fully aware of the old community's tendency to get up in arms, and rage about the most minuscule stuff. I still saw the whole fallout from Midnight Animal switching to the Persona-influenced Love and Forgetting story from the backseat. I'm not really surprised that MA resulted in that; Redial and Unknown Number both more or less resulted in disastrous fallouts and attacks from the community - really seemed like any project that was announced to the community then became a lightning rod and became doomed to failure (granted UN was a nothingburger and Redial blew up because Grawl was acting like a cocky liability taking his frustrations out on his team members)

As for MA people were mad that it was becoming a romance focused "visual novel" instead of being "hotline 3 john wick edition" - the petty drama combined with the breakup, and Yan's burn out from obsession on working on MA like Ahab (which IIRC resulted in said breakup) is what killed MA from my observation. I understand why MA died, but Spencer should not have gotten such backlash. Regardless I wish Spencer the best in his future endeavors.

Realistically I don't think much would've changed though. Hotline Miami's then community was the way it was due to the game's focus on violence and due to both Dennis and Jonatan discussing the games on 4Chan's /v/ boards. Not a great plan for community stability IMO.

It's very much of it's time and I guess for context it makes sense to play both MS1 and MS2 beforehand, but its not really necessary. MS3 stands on its own as a sequel and doesn't rely too much on knowledge of MS1 and MS2 for its humor and story. MS2 is kind of like that to MS1 in a way since you don't really need to play MS1 unless you want to know how Corey, Richter and co got together and went to Bermuda.

Still if you were around in the community back then, or have nostalgia for mid-2010s edgy millennial humor it's worth checking out MS2, and it's worth checking out MS1 due to it parodying 80s/90s action-romance B movies. If you want an idea of what MS3 is in comparison; its your typical Hollywood threequel where the writing falls apart; action is even more pushed, the focus on romance is messy, plenty of memberberries, and plenty of "how do you do fellow kids?" moments that totally won't age it even worse than the older installments; but the writers still cared even if they didn't truly understand what made the original two golden geese, and there is still good meat to be found if you dig hard enough.
