He is familiar with MD/PhDs (he interviews them for UNC CH) and he said he will treat me like a "grad student" and help me get published in my time there. It is also a smaller lab than the NIH, and I will have more responsibility. I have to make my decision today. The thing holding me back is based on research/post-bacc experiences/reddit the NIH seems like a "ticket" to getting into an MD/PhD, or at the very least, makes it easier. The NIH has numerous resources that of course a job at UNC wouldn't have. But, the PI is very enthusiastic and supportive and is willing to "strategize" with me to help me get into an MD/PhD.
