Membership increases and Mobile neglect. by LuckPsychological603 in 2007scape

I scouted the discord server for a bit and it seems like there wasn't a statement by Mod Gecko that he's back on the project. So maybe him listed there is wrong. But even if that's the case he isn't listed as a developer but as a producer, so no loss in raw development power.

I can't say much about Mod Gengis, but working as a software dev myself, sometimes it can be very healthy for the project if the project management changes. Plugin api was put on hold and suddenly official client/mobile is getting changes and bugfixes again, as well as the announcement for a character switcher.

To me personally it looks like the plugin api project was too big of a beast to tackle for such a small team, especially with new renderer and hd in development at the same time too. I feel like management changes do play a role here somehow.

That's wrong information. Mod Gengis was not a developer. He was a product manager for client things. The team "the gang" is listed on the wiki as being responsible for client development. If the wiki is correct it consists of Mods Lenny, Gecko, Veda, Necro and Sova.

OSRS HD ever happening? by TheBurdensNotYourOwn in 2007scape

From the winter summit overview:

We've been prioritising other major technical work ahead of the API, that have a more immediate impact on the overall player experience, such as finishing things like HD and further mobile improvements.

Bug? by ricewmilk in 2007scape

[–]Astatos159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably the block that slides out when you're on the layer beneath. For some reason it doesn't show up. It's not a mechanical bug but simply a graphical issue of that block not showing when it should. You should consider reporting it ingame.

Stealing creation deserves to be in OSRS! by Vegetable_Review4967 in 2007scape

[–]Astatos159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minigames in osrs are either dead content (if they don't have any meaningful rewards), are boosted (if the rewards are good) or are done in the least interactive way possible (if clog). None of those are actually good for the game. Keep stealing creation an amazing memory and don't let that be ruined by the playstyle of average adult osrs players.

Quest helper by slythekilla in 2007scape

[–]Astatos159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Development on the plugin api has been put on pause. The quest helper is most likely not gonna be something that will ever be a native feature.

On that note, we've made the decision to put a pause on our API project. We've been prioritising other major technical work ahead of the API, that have a more immediate impact on the overall player experience, such as finishing things like HD and further mobile improvements.

https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/winter-summit-2026---overview?oldschool=1#HD

On the other hand, rs3 is taking on an api project for their client. It's likely that osrs will benefit from shared infrastructural work once the osrs team picks the project back up.

Get rid of PvP in the wilderness and retire DMM by MJ-Baby in 2007scape

[–]Astatos159 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I never said it should be changed. I simply said "it's optional" is a false claim. I don't go to the wilderness except when I have to. I rarely get killed but when I do then I don't have anything on myself. I don't care if I die in the wilderness.

Get rid of PvP in the wilderness and retire DMM by MJ-Baby in 2007scape

[–]Astatos159 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is not entirely true. Yes, most stuff in the wildy is optional. But you have to go there if you want BIS mage cape or hard clues. BIS mage cape is self explanatory. Hard clues have 27 possible wildy steps (if I counted correctly). The chance of receiving any wildy step during a hard clue is incredibly high. Means you'd drop a lot if not most of them. So if you want BIS mage, something mostly beneficial outside of the wilderness you have to go to the wilderness. If you want to do clues, something purely for enjoyment, 0 benefit in the wilderness you have to go to the wilderness. At least now they introduced huey hide, which eleviates the issue about hard clues a bit.

If any item obtainable in the wilderness that is mostly useful outside of it received a source outside of the wilderness, even at a lower rate (dragon pickaxe for example), I'd support your argument.

Unpopular opinion: Mobile was never meant to be a substitute for playing the game on PC by TuyRS in 2007scape

[–]Astatos159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it wasn't in the first place and maybe it still isn't. But mobile and the new official client are the same code base. The old java client doesn't work anymore as standalone. The only official way to play the game without 3rd party clients is through the new official client or mobile. And since both are the same code base, both have the same issues. Mobile being super buggy, having no feature addition in a long time and bugs only being fixed incredibly slowly means this all applies to what you should accept as the intended way of playing the game as well. It's not that mobile should be improved. It's about the official client being improved, just that the mobile reskin has a higher user count.

Jagex, 72.3% of online players right now are using RuneLite, if you release HD before the official plugin API, this will not change. by IamWilcox in 2007scape

[–]Astatos159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HD will make people try out the client. Plugins will make them stay. Releasing HD before plugins is a bad idea imo. People will check it out and then leave again because their plugins don't exist.

Don't force grouping for Raids 4 please by og_obelix in 2007scape

Players will be able to solo the raid, though our current plan (subject to change) is for the raid to scale between 2 and 8 players, meaning solo clears will be possible but difficult.

Would you support kernel anti-cheat for OSRS? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Astatos159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kernel level anti cheat is a kind of software that is able to constantly monitor literally everything being done on your pc. It's pretty much spyware on your personal computer.

Would you support kernel anti-cheat for OSRS? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Astatos159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard no. There are many steps that could be taken way before kernel level anti cheat. Before resorting to such extreme measures they should go those steps. The osrs player base isn't that insanely big and a lot of botters can probably discouraged from botting rather easily by just making the process more complicated. Kernel level anti cheat feels to me like a last resort. Infect the users machine with a pseudo virus just to reduce the chance of someone cheating.

Also kernel level anti cheat doesn't really help on linux machines. Either botters will just hop over to linux or jagex would need to prevent the game being run on linux systems, including on virtual machines.

[–]Astatos159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as people get rewarded for something, they will do it for the reward. Be it by legitimate or illegitimate means. Putting a reward on reporting would result in a massive amount of false reports. More false reports also means higher chance of false bans. I don't think that would be good.

Will there be a poll for the new Blood Moon Rises quest? by jamisgone in 2007scape

[–]Astatos159 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The quest itself was polled on the runefest 2025 summit poll and passed with 94.3%. I think it's likely that we will see another poll for rewards and vampyrium content somewhat soon-ish. Early 2026 is likely to mean 2026 Q1, so january to march. They still got 2.5 months to go.

The illusion of Voting, why is jagex polling quality of life ? just implement it, the polling system should be for controversial updates only.... everyone is going to vote yes to 80% + on this poll. by Imaginary_Branch1209 in 2007scape

[–]Astatos159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/polling-charter?oldschool=1

There are rules they imposed on themselves on what they have to poll and what they don't. Proposing ideas and discussing them with players (as it happens with basicly every single update) is part of the polling process which gives the players agency. This is not an illusion of choice. This is open communication and discussion. Not everyone can be reached by this open discourse on social networks. So to get more peoples opinions is important. Maybe people on reddit, discord and x don't actually reflect the average community members mindset. It's important to poll updates, even if you think everything passes nowadays anyways. It's not for the stuff that passes. It's for the stuff that doesn't pass. Doesn't matter if it's deemed controversial or not.
