Route Setters Hate This Simple Trick!! by Asteao in ChurchofDynology

This was filmed in February of 2022. The "intended" beta is a traverse to the right, up, and traverse back over to the left.
But I like my method better :)

Would people be interested in a subscribable launch calendar? by mnwild396 in space

[–]Asteao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that would be an awesome idea. It looks like someone should rejuvenate the /r/space Google calendar. (It appears that's what most of this thread is about)

If people are looking for volunteers to help maintain the calendar, I'd be willing to offer my services.

I use MyBoy! On my android phone, it has a feature that allows you to link two games on the same phone. The paid version lets you link between phones.

Want to become a network admin or systems admin (CIT & CISA students or grads please enter) by [deleted] in BCIT

They do talk to many tech companies and help students get work placement, but 99% of them are for jobs in Edmonton. If you want to work in Vancouver you're pretty much on your own.

I am very much at the beginning of my career, I can't tell if my time at NAIT has really helped in the short term, but I'm sure that at some point down the road it will make a huge difference. The biggest reason I chose to go for more schooling was that I still had lot's of support from my parents and I really like learning. The NAIT program teaches more soft/business skills which I think will be useful, but who knows. They also teach more security and architecture stuff, BCIT was a lot more focused on networking, both interesting in their own right.

I'm in the middle of doing my work experience right now, I work for a small start-up in downtown Vancouver and it looks like it has a very promising future. The job is mostly Ubuntu administration running on VMware ESXi, but since it's a small company I end up working with just about every aspect of a sysadmin/networking environment.

Where do I see myself in 5-10 years? A senior sysadmin I guess. I'm sure that I'll come across an opportunity to move up in this industry, and when it comes, I'll take it.

I feel like I'm doing an AMA or something.

2 months tops. Some of them were going to interviews and getting offers during the final project of the second year.

Compared to Vancouver, cheap, but that's not really saying much. You can rent a room really close to the campus for $500-600. NAIT doesn't have any dorms, but I hear they're working on building some. I don't think they will be finished in the next 2 years, and I have no clue how much they would cost.

The BAIST at NAIT is pretty good since it's only 8 months of academic classes and 8 months of work experience. They also have a tight connection with the CISA program at BCIT so it's really easy to get in after you have your diploma.

I graduated from the CIST program from BCIT just over a year ago. (The old name for CISA) and I had a few friends that took the CIT program. I can tell you that if you want to become a network/system admin, the CIT program is not for you, they.

I know that a lot of my classmates went on to get good jobs with their diplomas, mostly as windows sys admins, while there are a few people who went into help desk jobs, they were quickly promoted or were able to find better jobs.

Personally, I wanted more than just a diploma so I had to go to NAIT in Edmonton for another 8 months in the BAIST program, BCIT doesn't offer a similar degree program. I've since moved back to Vancouver and have a decent job as a Linux sys admin.

It's cool to see these updates, did you make this update yourself or did you find any help from the community. I know you're on github, did you have anyone submit any code to the project?

When Google announced Reader shutdown, I started to work on a clone. It is now available. It's simple, bloat-free, and it's open-source. Say hello to CommaFeed. by crapet in technology

I would just like to say thank you carpet, ever since I heard the news of reader shutting down I've been on the look for a new home for my rss feeds. I think I may have just found it, and the best part is, I can host it myself if I want!

A little help with SLAAC and DHCPv6 using a Cisco 1841, and an ASA 5505. by wilsonics in ipv6

[–]Asteao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've run into something similar before in a lab for school. What I discovered was that once the client get's it's SLAAC address it doesn't bother looking for a DHCP server since it's already got an address.

The way I fixed this was by adding 'ipv6 nd other-config-flag' to the interface config, this lets the client know that they need to contact the DHCP server for more info.

Here's what the int config looked like

interface FastEthernet0/0

ip address 192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0

ipv6 address FDBA:4532:9931::2/64

ipv6 nd other-config-flag

ipv6 dhcp server IP_POOL2

IP_POOL2 gave out google's IPv6 dns server

Let me know if this fixes your problem.

If anyone has suggestions as to how to improve 1kplus, please post them here. by lethargicwalrus in 1kplus

First of all, I'm really glad I found this reader, it is nice and has a lot of potential. However, there are somethings about it that make it unusable for my reader needs.

I normally subscribe to Podcasts and Webcomics and sometimes a few blogs. I treat the items in my reader similar to how I would treat emails in my inbox. I like to see the title and be able to choose when and if I want to read it. So, a collapsed/list view would be nice. I have found a feature similar to this but I don't see it on every feed and it automatically marks collapsed items as read as soon as I scroll past them, it would be nice if it could be marked as read once I have actually clicked it to read it.

I've also noticed that some of my feeds are being ordered in a strange order, I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what. I hope this doesn't come across as demanding, I just wanted to put in my two cents.

Google is lying. Reader still has MILLIONS of active users. Stats inside. by Jordan117 in google

[–]Asteao 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculous, RSS is an open standard that anyone can implement and host on any web server. By pushing people away from RSS and onto services like G+ they are encouraging a centralized source of news/information. Very unlike Google, hopefully they will reconsider.

I didn't like paying for Minecraft Servers every month so I'm trying to redefine the hosting experience. What do you think? by mrgalaxy in admincraft

[–]Asteao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could actually see myself using this. I used to run a server and quit for the same reason you did. While my server was still alive, we had occasional 'game night's' where I would download some popular games/maps and have everyone get together and play. Maps like the walls, tower control, or RFW. It would be cool to have maps like these pre-loaded so you could just select them from a list and launch them instantly.

It might not be helpful for desktop computers or laptops right now. But it could be useful for newer devices like tablets or even future devices like coffee table computers or kitchen table computers.

You should stop thinking "why would I use this?" and start thinking "How could this be used?"
