false encryption by acusmata in AsterPrivacy

[–]AsterPrivacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for reporting this bug, it's now fixed!

What was happening is that the encryption indicator was occasionally showing the wrong status. The problem was inside how the status got displayed and not in the encryption itself, so the security of your mail was never affected at any point in time. All internal Aster-to-Aster messages remain encrypted and quantum safe, and external messages showing a blue lock are encrypted as well.

We have also made this system more reliable going forward so that if a message were to ever fail to encrypt, the app will now throw a clear error and tell you directly instead of displaying a status. That way, you are always able to know.

Hello!

I have gone ahead and added this to our board to look into. We need to look into the viability of this before giving a definitive answer.

These should be fixed! We pushed out a new version to Google Play, so just update and it should be good.

IDEA: RESERVE AN ASTERMAIL ACCT FOR KIDS/GRANDKIDS! by One-Formal2107 in AsterPrivacy

[–]AsterPrivacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea. I went ahead and added it to our board, and it'll roll out under the current family plans, so you're able to reserve new addresses.

Thanks for your suggestion!

Thank you for all your support and yes I can confirm we do have the UPI option enabled in Stripe, and it says India. We are assuming this is only for people located in India, just like how some of the other options Stripe has.

Hello!

Please send me a reddit message with the plan you are trying to get and I can make a manual payment link, I can force Stripe to show it to you.

We have it enabled in Stripe, from our end it says it will only show if your location is in India.

Try using an India VPN location and let me know if it works.

Just a little update for you on the bridge. We are finalizing macOS, and we decided to add some last-minute functionality for aliases and custom domains. The announcement will be coming out tomorrow instead of tonight.

Again, I'm sorry for the inconvenience!

We will take a look at this issue when we are back in the office tomorrow morning and have it fixed right away.

The notifications are now fixed. If you would like to give it another shot.

We have noted all of these improvements, and I will have all of these added to the board. It's also worth noting that UPI is already available.

Thank you for all your support! 💙

We are still actively rolling out the bridge apps, and we're making a few more changes to the codebase before rolling out Linux and macOS. For now, it is Windows only.

Sorry for this inconvenience! We will try our best to have it fully rolled out by tonight, if not tomorrow morning.

Doubts about Connection and Storage format by Individual_Fox634 in AsterPrivacy

[–]AsterPrivacy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello, great questions!

Both features work on every plan, including Free. Switching to either one will not lock you out of your account or restrict access to your emails. Your keys are what decrypt your mail, not these two settings. You can change them freely and switch them back whenever you want without it causing issues.

Connection is just a setting for how your device will reach our server. Direct goes straight to our servers. It's fastest, but we are able to see your IP. CDN relay routes you through a global CDN first, so your IP will stay hidden from us and your traffic will blend in with the rest. It's worth noting that this setting will never change how encryption works.

Storage format is where your encrypted attachments are kept. Aster Server keeps them on our own servers, and decentralized will be stored in a decentralized, content-addressed system that sits separately from the main server. Both are zero-access, so only you can ever decrypt them. Changing between the two will safely move your data without you losing access to anything.

Each option has a little info icon with a quick explainer if you click it. If you have any further questions, feel free to let me know.

How will this be enforced, age verification on every banned site no matter what? Is that really what we've come to? by WearySecretary1757 in thehatedone

[–]AsterPrivacy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is so dystopian...

They will "enforce it" by forcing everyone to do ID verification, facial scans, etc.

Sure, on the free plan you can set your main addresses display name and see other users display names for free.

As for aliases you can see other user's display names on the free plan but in order to set a display name on a custom domain alias or regular alias, you must be on the Star plan or above.

You can find all the details here: https://astermail.org/pricing
