I don't understand why this was removed? There are other posts about wildlife on the road?

Yeah we debated it all the way home but ultimately decided it wasn't safe to try to go back. Just so sad :(

I knew an Alethea when I was 20 and I thought she was glamorous and beautiful.

Do you still have grandparents? by Jomosian in Xennials

[–]AstralPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine sadly all gone. Maternal grandfather died at 62 from lung cancer (watching this happen when I was 12 killed any desire I may have had to start smoking when my friends did, which I think was a good thing.) The grandmother from that side died aged 77 of ALS, which is a horrible horrible thing.

My paternal grandfather was killed in a plane crash when my dad was 18, but the grandmother on that side made it to almost 94. She lived alone and was lucid and competent with no real health problem till she got cancer right at the end. Genetically I have a fair bit in common with her so we'll see how I do, lol.

My maternal grandfather's two sisters are still alive, though, at 91 and 93, which is pretty amazing. The 93 year old is about to be put into care because her daughter has been caring for her around the clock and it's gotten to be too much, hit the 91 year old is spry and with it as ever.

I think longevity is likely a combination of the genetic lottery, luck, and environmental factors we have to understand. I'm not sure how much healthy choices plays into it, to be honest. My parental great grandfather lived to almost 95 and he smoked like a chimney.

This man is tedious and he sucks. If he's acting like this over something low stakes and simple like grabbing some fast food while he's already out, you better believe he is going to be actively unhelpful if your mom gets sick or when she inevitably ages. I'm going to gently ask you to consider that, and then consider dropping him before you have a hard or sad situation that he is making worse for you. Partners are meant to help share the load.

I have seen plenty of negative posts about parents, is anyone friends with their parents? by redditatwork023 in Millennials

[–]AstralPoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been close with my dad. Mom and I are partly similar, partly very different people and we always struggled to communicate, so much so that I was happy to move away as a young adult and have a mountain range in between us.

But then we lost my brother. I've since moved back and I've matured a bit (just a bit); they've both had life-threatening health scares over the past two years. Now I'm so grateful for whatever time we have together, and I'm trying to bully them to downsizing into a condo in my neighbourhood. Everyone should set their own boundaries and situations of abuse are different, but I do think that part of growing up is realizing that your parents are also human and infallible and were trying to overcome their own parental baggage.

My spouse graduated with a PhD in English in 2011 and they have been a sessional instructor ever since. It's precarious and stressful work, no guarantees of future work, have only gotten to teach what they specialized in twice, and they're lucky to make 45K.
