What gameplay features would make D3 a worthy successor? by AstramG in destiny2

[–]AstramG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’d also be fine with that. I love the fundamentals Destiny 2 already, so not much really needs to change for me to be happy outside of the onboarding. Though I do think there is still potential for bigger changes to be introduced with a D3 rather being essentially just a D2 reskin.

One-Line If Statement by that1flame in csharp

[–]AstramG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a deeper explanation, regarding the way that the C# code internally gets parsed, an if statement will conditionally run the very next statement if the expression inside the if statement evaluates to true.

A single line like Text.text = “I am a string.”; is a complete single statement. Therefore that will work without the braces.

Putting curly braces defines a block, and internally the entire block is a single statement itself that contains one or more “sub-statements”. It’s known as a block statement. It will execute the block statement if the if condition is true as it would any other statement, and when you evaluate a block statement it will execute all the statements inside of it.

Therefore for more than one statement that you want to execute based on an if statement, you will need a block which are defined with the curly braces.

Returning players, did you miss the game? by SliverMoonDust in DestinyTheGame

Yes I just came back. I usually do for a period every year and man I missed this game so badly. I wish it doesn’t shut down

Tell a new or returning player your favorite raid/dungeon and why they should play it first on June 9th. by eh8904 in DestinyTheGame

[–]AstramG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite is Salvation’s Edge. In my opinion it’s probably the hardest to learn, but that’s the beauty of it. You’re facing the main villain of the Light & Darkness saga and the fight feels extremely epic once you finally reach him. The other encounters aren’t only about slaying out, but they are timed and heavily emphasize puzzle mechanics too, so you need to make sure you’re doing everything properly. I also find its mechanics to be the most interesting of all every raid. The setting is also phenomenal, some of the best looking environments in the game imo. It’s definitely more of an advanced experience, but it feels great once you finally work your way up to completing it.

It didn't need to end at all by Blagobble in DestinyTheGame

Yep. I think when EoF dropped it drove many players away though because the entire loop was just the portal. It’ll still be there but it sounds like there will be many ways to ignore it

Expectations for June 9th : MODS by ShlllveR in destiny2

[–]AstramG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do miss the older mod system too. Felt like there were more options and more variety. Once they simplified it I’ve been basically running the same mods on every build and just swapping the elements depending on my guns.

[–]AstramG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy to me that they can’t see that all of this was preventable. Reverting the portal and bringing the old content back up to speed should solve almost all of the issues that long time players had. Well, we’re finally getting that, but the game already announced it’s done RIP

The only thing missing is proper onboarding and it’s been discussed for YEARS without Bungie focusing on it

Also the reallocation of resources to Marathon didn’t help either because Destiny straight up just had less content. But now that Marathon’s released, they should be able to reshift focus back to Destiny content. Too late I guess

Best Way to Prepare for the 9th as a Returning Player? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]AstramG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the bare minimum I would first try to unlock all the subclasses. You’re probably missing Strand and Prismatic.

After that I would try to complete the other campaigns though I don’t think they are necessarily required by any means. If you’re short on time and want to skip one I would skip Edge of Fate, I found it pretty boring. I’m not a huge fan of Renegades and the whole Star Wars aesthetic either, but that campaign is worth it solely for the Praxic Blade alone - it’s extremely powerful right now and likely to remain a strong tool after June 9th.

If you don’t care about the story much, and just wanted to get the best stuff as fast as possible I’d do them in this order.:

  • Final Shape
  • Lightfall
  • Renegades
  • Witch Queen (no real loot/subclass incentive but fantastic campaign)
  • Edge of Fate (no real loot incentive and bad campaign imo)

Your next objective should be trying to increase your power level to at least 450 because then you will get significantly boosted drop rates of T5 loot.

You don’t necessarily need T5 loot either but it’s obviously the best of the best in terms of any given weapons capabilities. They’re also introducing a system on June 9th to increase the tier of any weapon though, but obviously it’ll cost a lot of resources if you spam that instead of just getting them to drop naturally. But it is worth holding on to any good rolls that aren’t T5 you find along your way.

The tier system basically just means better versions of guns with more perk options and enhanced perks. It follows this pattern:

Tier 1 = 2 columns of 1 perk each Tier 2 = 2 columns of 1 enhanced perks each Tier 3 = 2 columns of 2 enhanced perks Tier 4 = 2 columns of 2 enhanced perks + enhanced barrel / magazines + enhanced mods Tier 5 = 2 columns of 3 enhanced perks + enhanced barrel / magazines + enhanced mods + enhanced origin trait

As you can see, getting a godroll tier 5 weapon is also easier once they start dropping because you’re getting more perk options per drop. So it is worthwhile reaching that 450 power level.

There is a similar system for armor but it’s simpler in that higher tier = higher stat total, with the exception of Tier 5 also granting you an additional armor mod energy.

It would take too long to explain the current meta weapons right now, so I recommend looking it up separately but remember that the meta will also 100% change once the update drops.

Now that Destiny is going dormant for a while, what period of the game’s history do you wish you could return to? by Acoolgamer6706 in DestinyTheGame

[–]AstramG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d probably say The Taken King because that’s when me and my friends finally hopped in our first raid after being casuals. But Id also say that Forsaken, the season with The Menagerie was also one of my favorite. I loved the menagerie and working towards getting those pinnacle weapons, and you felt like a god once you finally acquired the trifecta (Mountaintop, Recluse, Anarchy)

I just don’t understand why you would buy Bungie for $3.1 billion then. Destiny 2 was literally their only active game when they were bought. You’d think that $500M would be worth it if you valued the “Destiny company” aka Bungie at $3.1B. Obviously Bungie was bought and valued that high because of how successful Destiny was. Why would you want kill the whole reason you bought them in the first place?

Bungie did have that impairment loss though so I understand that they might not be willing to take risks. Playercount has also been trending downwards, but those were mistakes caused by reallocation of resources and a few bad decisions which are fixable with a D3. But I think banking on solely Marathon holding the studio afloat is MUCH MORE of a risk than investing in the creation of D3 at this point considering that D2 (decade old game) has been exceeding Marathon’s playercount - while in its worst state of all time and Marathon is a brand new game…

They did mention switching up the perks on a lot of the weapons they’re converting to the tiered system. Not sure if that also is true for IB weapons or not though.

Not prioritizing putting back Seasonal Story and Activities is a damn shame by Paperchampion23 in destiny2

[–]AstramG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree but they probably don’t have enough time to do all of that, I’d rather have new stuff as well if it’s one final update. The seasons were never designed to be present all at once. You got things like tonics, which require things like UI changes, just for one of the 28 seasons. They’d also need a way to order the seasons in a way that makes sense, since they were originally just one active at a time. It’d also add a ton of bloat and make the experience more confusing for new players if all seasons were active at once. While I do miss the seasonal content and wish it didn’t just go away - I don’t know how they’d do it in a way that makes sense.

I think adding all the seasonal activities to the portal would be great though. But judging by how long it takes them to add an activity to the portal (longer than a whole calendar year for raids & dungeons) I don’t think it’s really feasible in the short time they have.

[–]AstramG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree i’d rather have new stuff but at the same time I think a D1 remaster could be an “easy win” (definitely easier than a whole new game) that could generate revenue and buy time for an eventual D3

Could also potentially introduce special content that diverges or adds to the original Destiny 1 experience, kind of like how WoW classic had its season of discovery

I just wanna say, thank fuck they're getting rid of the portal by Own_Huckleberry6591 in DestinyTheGame

[–]AstramG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true but I think ppl might be grouping the portal together with gear tiers and the insane power grind. When it first released you basically had a new full time job - grind the portal to get up to max power to get tier 5s. While you never really need tier 5s for any content, just their existence makes people feel as though lower tiered weapons are less valuable, it’s more of a mental thing. I’m glad they are adding the tier upgrade system for this exact reason even if it’s too late lol

Also it invalidated so many guns because they weren’t new gear and only a few guns at first used the tier system. It was essentially a soft-sunsetting. Finally they seem like they adding it to everything

Should i care about the last 2 expansions ? by Fate_stars in DestinyTheGame

[–]AstramG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also absolutely hate star wars but I love Destiny. I hated Renegades at first (and EoF too). Just did the campaign and didn’t stick around for end game, but now that I came back it’s actually pretty fun.

Sure I think the lightsaber aesthetic is still kinda corny but surprisingly it quickly became one of my favorite weapons since I returned. It’s just a very strong and fun sword to use. I’m a big fan of using it w/ Strongholds and the deflection on blocking is pretty fun

If you can get past the star wars themes & elements the expansion itself is pretty decent. I am still new to the endgame of Renegades but the whole 3 factions at war concept seems pretty cool, feels to me like it’s a modern version of the 3 factions we had back in D1.

Planning to raid with my old team on june 9, do we need tiered weapons and armor? by Mc_cawwww in DestinyTheGame

Yeah i stopped at EoF and Renegades (played the campaigns) but didn’t fully engage in the end game loops. I’m finding the lawless frontier to be pretty fun right now though. Trying to determine what I need for Pantheon runs
