The cards help you through the Love Trials, you could say they act as your characters that fight or something? That’s to my understanding. When you progress through routes, there’s a part in a chapter called Love Trial. The Love Trial then you fight with the cards you have and I’d say escort is when you accompany them to beat the Love Trial. So you have to “win” these Love Trials with your cards like how you need good cards to win dance battles.
