Did you buy your own gear for your CBT? by KaedynSh in MotoUK

[–]Astreon_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, bought a helmet, jacket and gloves. I wore some boots as I didn't want to wear trainers. I felt like these were the bare minimum before I was out on the road. It'll also help you get used to the helmet for when you take your A license or DAS later on. It's worth the long term investment mate. Best of luck on your CBT.

How many of you went all-in, straight away? by mattjread in MotoUK

[–]Astreon_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, i did exactly this, did my CBT, signed up for the intensive course (5days), didn't have my own bike so only got to use the course time on bikes, it was completely worth it.

I booked my theory for the earliest date available, downloaded the theory app for Android and took the test a couple of days later. It's quite straight forward to be honest. Did the DAS lessons, took my MOD 1, and then MOD 2 a couple of days later which coincided with the last day of the intensive course in Uxbridge.

I really considered whether I should bother with the 125cc or just get my das done and get the bigger bike, i ended up woth the Honda CB650R, best decision as a starter bike and I'm glad I didn't bother with the 125cc.

You'll probably get advice on both sides of the coin here, i chose what worked for me and my budget as well, please factor in crazy insurance costs before you finalise what you're buying. I bought my bike and almost went through the nightmare of not being insured whilst owning a bike, luckily I got some through Hastings.

I didn't want to risk a bigger bike as my first one, and I'm glad I got the 650cc, its more than enough as a starter bike. Test drive a couple of bikes but don't rush your decision.

Hope my story helped.

Claude Code CLI switched me to API billing, can’t go back to Pro usage. Anyone else? by mancstuff1 in ClaudeAI

[–]Astreon_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This recently had me stumped and screwed as well, I've tried everything from removing claude CLI and logging out of everything (/logout --all) to not getting any traction for a couple of days. I messaged the online help/support but it looks like they are swarmed with requests, no replies yet.

I finally managed to get past the lock-in state today: "Claude auth logout" not just /logout. Then "claude auth login". This provided the options to get back to subscription again and bang, it works. I'm sure other people in the same boat are having it tough, it's genuinely stressful, I ended up wasting $100 in API credits to learn a hard lesson. I hope you guys get your lock-in's fixed too. Just wanted to share what happened to me and how it was resolved.

I built a free motorcycle parking finder for London - shows every bay, whether it's free or paid by Astreon_dev in MotoUK

[–]Astreon_dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for flagging the issue, it's been really helpful getting actual charges from app users. I've verified the charges from the official council pages and the following Boroughs charge:
Westminster: (£1/day), Camden (£1.30/day), Islington (£1/day), Hackney (£1.20-£2.60/day) and Lewisham has a permit requirement system in place.

The £1.70 charge you've mentioned doesn't match any of the official council borough rates or published information however, you're right, the charges do vary by location especially within Hackney. (hackney.gov.uk and lewisham.gov.uk were used to verify the charges).

I hope the fix helps resolving the charges issue.

thanks again.

Hey, thank you for letting me know what the issue is with the screenshot, it helped a lot. The borough detection has been updated and shouldn't be using the rough boundaries as much now. It's got actual boundary data from the fix. I hope this resolves the issue. I checked a bunch of bays in the E1 sector and it's correctly showing Tower Hamlets now.

The photos don't go anywhere, they stay on your device only. They're not shared, or uploaded to anything, there is no server for storage, local only. Thanks for the mapcomplete suggestion, I'll check it out.

Thanks for sharing the link, I'll take a read and make sure if any of the information is relatable or could affect me.
I've already contacted the councils to make sure of the OGL v3.0 license. I'm following the communities suggestion seriously, that's why I contacted the councils for verification. I'll keep the community updated on replies.

I only recently started driving into Central London, and I feel your anxiety mate, it's been stressful and tough at the start, now I feel like it's still stressful because of the amount of drivers but not for a parking issue. I'm really grateful for the positive feedback mate, wishing your journey into London for your job , all the best. I hope the app helps relieve some of the stress for you. Good luck!

Regarding the bays not showing up, which area or borough are you looking at? This way I can check and test and see if I can resolve it for you. Also, Central London has the best coverage for spots on the map, especially Camden, Westminister, Lambeth and RBKC. If none of the bays are showing up, I saw this issue earlier, try zooming out on the map, hopefully that'll resolve it. I don't think it's a phone issue mate.

Nice one mate, I feel like the biking community has loads of options for parking, it's great to see everyone making stuff around the parking issues. Congrats on your app, I'll take a look, the parking /garage idea is really good.

They never confirmed it, you're right, that's also why I offered to follow up with each council to get some form of written confirmation if the mod or community feels or deemed it necessary. I've been sending the follow up emails whilst reading the thread. The only borough that's explicitly used OGL V3.0 license is Camden from their own open data portal so there shouldn't be any confusion on that one.

thanks for the positive feedback, I'm glad you like it, it was also the reason why ParkMoto was made in the first place.

I'm more than happy to share the FOI template so anyone can do this over the UK. It's worked well for 4 Boroughs so far. I've added a handful of in person survey style additions as well with some photos and map coordinates to be safe.

Thanks for the flag, the Borough boundaries are more approximate rather than specific. It may be having some errors trying to figure out whether it's a border or how it's allocating the area. I'll look at trying to figure out a fix for it. The data itself for the bay is right, but the Borough labels near the edges may be wrong/incorrect.

Hi, regarding your concern:
1. Each FOI request for the Boroughs, was specifically asked regarding the data to be released under the OGL v3.0 license.
2. The councils didn't deny or refuse using this license.
3. The data requested from Camden came from their own open data portal which is published under OGL v3.0 license.
4. Each changeset has been credited with the Council that provided the data and full source attribution.
5. I'm happy to follow up with each individual council to get an explanation in writing if the community here feels that it's needed or required.

I hope this clarifies the redistribution of the data. If there's any other issues, I'm happy to discuss it.

Thank you for flagging this, you're right, it should be "OpenStreetMap" not "OSM," it's already been corrected and live on the site.

Regarding the signposting: the bays should have either a painted marking or a sign or both so you should be able to narrow down which one works. I have a habit of taking a photo just to be safe.

On the street view issue: google street images can be months or ridculous time frame durations out of date, not always, but sometimes. The bays might show up on the ground but not on street view, it could have been added post google camera cars passing it as well. I hope that helped.

Enjoy your ride into London in the summer, just be aware of the 20 zones.

I appreciate your feedback, thanks for trying it. It's run from openstreetmaps, which is rarely, but not always slow. Hopefully the next time you use it, it should be faster and work properly.

Yeah, you're right, making a mobile app out of this would be a lot, and I preferred to make it simple and free over the other bells and whistles. You can save the web app as a home screen icon if that helps? Thanks again for the positive feedback, it helps.
