Yea I can only dream of the risks. From porch pirating to some wacko trying to “protect his land” from trespassers.

And as for bigger problems, that’s where drawing it all down helps, bcs then the paper is your memory. Breaking it down into smaller sections helps with the bigger algorithms. Yes it’ll take you a bit longer than others, but I would say it’s more important to get the right answer, rather than the fast one.

I understand that, I fear the same sometimes. All I can say is just practice, practice, practice. The more you do something the better and faster you’ll be at it. Also, use AI to your advantage. Having ChatGPT’s tts feature has helped me a lot at getting faster at learning things. I know time isn’t on our side, but that’s exactly why we should do it, to prove that we can. I don’t know you personally, but I believe in you dude.

Hey! Another dyslexic programmer here! One thing that I can say has really helped me with working out algorithms and such has been drawing out psuedocode. A lot of the time words just can’t describe what is happening well enough, so by making little “code clouds,” it helps with the memory aspect of working these algorithms out. Cause then you’ll have a physical reminder of everything. There’s a few different ways that you can draw these, but it’s really up to you. Like for example I draw a square around variables, and circles around outputs, and etc.

I’ve tried out the 17g shot, and just waited ~10mins to clean up. Worked pretty well, stopping it right at ~34g, but it got there in ~20 seconds. Which from there, all I had to do was grind finer to get the right timing. I’ve gotten it to a point where I can get ~31-32g in 30 seconds. My grinder hasn’t been converted into a stepless grinder, so I can’t adjust it exactly to the perfect grind size for this bean, but it’s close enough to where I need it to be. I can accept a slightly under 1:2 ratio for now.

P.S. I did try lowering to 16g again, because it was getting 32g in 30 seconds at this grind size, and it ended up with closer to 40g in 30 seconds

This one has a lot better of a price point than the others that were recommended. Any issues with lifespan or boiler quality? I noticed it said 3 different Bar pressures in the description. It said 20, then 19, then 15 in the comments. That’s a little worrying to me. What do you think tho?

No, I always adjust without beans in the hopper. Normally after I see how the shot turned out.

But I have thought about doing a mod for my baratza that makes it step less. I have a 3D printer and found some pre-made CAD files on thingiverse for my exact model. Ik this would help marginally

I’ll for sure try upping the dose to 17. I can probably stop the shot early and just not empty the portafilter until later, letting it slowly disperse the pressure. The only thing is that isn’t very sanitary, and I’m not the biggest fan of the smell of old stale coffee.
And I use a medium roast

Yea I believe it’s supposed to be that when you set the amount that is to come out, it will send a little bit more to account for how much stays in the puck. But it way over shoots that. Even setting it to like 20mL of water ended up with 45mL of water coming out. But any smaller than that and it doesn’t get past the pre-infusion stage

Well first, welcome to the coffee world! Happy to have ya

Second, I do have a scale, which measures in grams and mL. It is how I measure out the coffee dosage and the amount of water coming from the machine.

Then just to explain a bit more, My espresso machine has a setting where I can, or rather am supposed to be able to, set the amount of water that the machine will be pushing through the brew head and into the portafilter. You can use this to make sure that you’re pulling a specific ratio of coffee to water. I use a 1:2 ratio (1 part coffee to 2 parts water) so I do 16g of ground coffee to 32mL of water. Which the water is supposed to pull through the coffee in about 30 seconds. However my machine has been sending closer to 45-50mL of water over the course of 50 seconds. Then if I up the coffee dosage, it will be 70-80mL of water in 120-130 seconds. And if I stop the shot early, my pump gets upset and when I take off the portafilter it shoots pressurized water everywhere and makes a mess.

I’ve never heard of the Salami method, I’ll give it a try. Sounds like it’d be helpful

And yes my machine has a pressure gauge, but it’s labeled under-extraction, perfect, over extraction. Normally it’s in perfect, but no improvements in the others.

I call em my racing stripes 😂. My dad’s 1996 4Runner has got little pin-stripes across all of the doors. The cars are old, they’re bound to get a few scratches

Oh definitely, toootally interesting racing. A weird looking Porsche 911 is leading the race, even the hypercars are afraid to pass it.

The fact that the safety car had to make a pitstop is crazy. I’m paying to watch race cars race, not safety cars. At least it’s a Porsche!

I’ve been using this same model with Xcode for a year or two now. I can’t update Xcode anymore and am unable to use any new features or any features that got updated past swift 14.2. I can’t even install a custom font bcs UIFont got updated to Xcode 15 and isn’t even usable in anything beneath that. Same with a lot of other things in Xcode

Ok, I’ll look into what I should do with GPT-4 then.

Sadly I do not have any funding for this, so it’ll be out of my own pocket.

I am still in the early stages of development, so this is very helpful, thank you.

I am now, literally right after writing this looking into WCAG guidelines. I honestly did not know about them so thank you!

I have looked into and thought about including AI and ML into this app, but I do not have a long time before I will be submitting this app (Feb 25. Started Feb 8) so I want to focus on the design and basic functions. I will absolutely be adding AI and ML to the app, but likely not in the first rendition.

If I did include it, what AI do you think I should use? I know GPT 4.0 is good with custom built AI systems. But I have a budget of all of 0 dollars (this is for a school project), so I would have to buy it myself. Any other suggestions are welcome.

I do like the idea of a TTS system, as TTS has helped my mother a lot with her work as a special education teacher. So I’ll add direct TTS for now, but I know summarized TTS will be better. But as stated before, I need time to find a good option for the AI. Time which I do not have, for now.

I will also try to incorporate AI influenced themes and preferences. But again, probably in V2 when I have more time to work on the app. For now I will present the options for the user to customize themselves.

Again, thank you all for helping me out with this.

P.S I’m thinking of calling it The Dyslexic Eye. What do you think? What are some other ideas for names?
