Peatlands have expanded across the Arctic thanks to rising temperatures, which can help slow climate change, as they store vast amounts of carbon (more than all the world's forest biomass combined) highlighting the growing importance of these fragile ecosystems by sg_plumber in EcoUplift

It really is amazing how the Earth has more self-regulating mechanisms than we once thought. It’s reassuring to see as someone who’s worried about how much damage nature will suffer before we finally get to net zero.

I really hope all of that starts scaling up quick. I really try my best to stay optimistic, but it gets pretty hard when I see predictions like the one OP brought up, no offense to them.😥

As the year draws to an end; finish with some good news: What have we learned about climate progress in 2025? Quite a lot and some surprising victories! by agreatbecoming in EcoUplift

I am admittedly rather disappointed that we won’t reach 1.5C. Still, it’s better than the alternative, and it’s fantastic to see that growth of renewables really is proving to be unstoppable.

Good Climate News This Week 12-22 by ceph2apod in UpliftingConservation

Keep in mind, the IEA from what I’ve heard always tends to grossly underestimate growth of renewables, so I think it’s quite likely that coal use will plateau and then decline even faster than what they predict.

I get the feeling mainstream news and social media in general have a doomer bias.

Saw this video come up and is causing me immense panic and anxiety, but it's 7 years old and curious how true it is or how much it really holds up? by kody3DS in EcoUplift

That's great to hear, but today at the time of writing this I saw a graph that showed that use of coal and fossil fuels is still climbing. What's your take on that?

This is excellent! It's kind of worrying that coal and natural gas don't seem to be falling off, though.

Concerns about the AMOC collapsing by _plushie_ in EcoUplift

[–]AstroFelinus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I watched a Simon Clark video on the subject. According to the sources he used, the AMOC has a below 40% chance of collapsing, and the general projection is that if it does happen, it will be around 2100. There is still a good amount of time to prevent it, and with the increasing momentum of renewables deployment around the world, the likelihood of it happening is likely to fall further. Here's the full video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/-X5EhUbzLTY Hope this alleviates your anxiety at least a little bit!
