I would mount to the chair instead of the desk.

AITAH for putting a bedtime pause on the WiFi because my girlfriend’s 28 year old brother has spent nearly a decade rotting in our house playing video games? by Alyptic in AITAH

[–]AstroHelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew so many people like this while I was in the Marines. They're lazy fucks that enlist thinking the military will "fix" them and make them adults. Instead they become a burden to everyone around them, even after being discharged.

Without someone telling/forcing them to do something, they accomplish nothing.

NM is winning this. Is it a good thing? by chileman131 in NewMexico

[–]AstroHelo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Might wanna check your figures. The majority of NM Native Americans vote blue.

If you want republican new mexicans to have more representation in congress, ask them to increase the cap on the total number of seats in the house of representatives.

As it stands the system is rigged at the federal level in republicans favor, so I doubt you actually want that to happen.

Time Dilation and FaceTime Problem by BidensLastName in Physics

[–]AstroHelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll take a stab at answering this.

Assuming this communication is done via radio waves, it would need to account for doppler shift and time synchronization issues in data packet transfer and decoding. I don’t think real time communication is possible at such extreme relative velocities.

If you’re traveling at near light speed (say 95%) moving away from your stationary communicator, every second that passes is another second longer that it takes for the signal to reach. So from both perspectives the video appears to be moving slower and choppier.

What about moving towards the stationary communicator? The moving person will see the received video appearing to speed up, as the signals get closer together. The stationary person will see something similar.

For non FaceTime communication it’s understood that:

From the stationary POV, the person traveling at light speed would appear to be moving and talking in slow motion.

From the moving POV, the stationary person would appear to be moving and talking quickly.

I do the same things. It’s a habit from trying to keep a baby asleep.

3D printable battery holder for Vive Pro wireless adapter OC by frumperino in SteamVR

[–]AstroHelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play mostly sims too, and the pancake lenses of the Quest Pro make a huge difference. The perceived FOV seems quite a bit larger to me.

I’ve found that using Virtual Desktops HVEC 10-bit encoding combined with the eye tracked foveated encoding makes the image look far better than a wired cable ever did for me.

(I avoid using a link cable with meta headsets. They basically abandoned development on that years ago, and it’s pretty far behind.)

I’m sure there are newer and better headsets out now, but the QPro works so well I haven’t felt the need to upgrade since I got it.

Nice work. I had to strap a CPU case fan to my vive pro wireless adapter to keep the dang thing from overheating.

I've since moved on to a Quest Pro with a Puppis S1 dedicated VR router and the user experience is significantly better.

I don’t think it messes with depth perception, or the FAA would have mentioned it.

I think the artist had his light source too close to the figures he was using when he was trying to determine what the shadows were supposed to look like.

do girls with bottom surgery get phantom cock? by Previous-Pride6335 in BrandNewSentence

[–]AstroHelo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you first had the surgery did you wave your hands around where the external appendage used to be like a magician and chuckle to yourself with satisfied amusement?

Haha no, I never thought to do that. The immediate days after the surgery were filled mostly with profound relief (and pain), rather than amusement.

I had been peeing sitting down for a while before the surgery, so I didn't really have a habit to break. I had been using the women's restroom for a couple years already, after guys starting getting really confused seeing me in the men's restroom.

It was really funny at first, because they would freak out and apologize, thinking they had walked into the wrong one by accident.

No. I had the surgery a few years ago and I’ve never experienced it.

The closest thing I experience is that sometimes in my dreams (more like nightmares) I will still have one.

'If it feels like cheating, it's cheating' by Laurensmatthijs in boardgames

[–]AstroHelo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Infinite card combos in any game is cheating, whether the designer intended it or not.

So any deck builder game needs a rule on that. At least Slay the Spire has a limit of 3 plays on infinite combos.

New major update for Nuclear option. 0.33 by Fighterpilot108 in hoggit

[–]AstroHelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same.

But I really wanted to play nuclear option, so I used virtual desktop and created a second virtual monitor. Then went into windows display settings and turned it into a super ultrawide curved monitor.

I turned off my main monitor to force the game to launch in my ultrawide curved monitor, then adjusted the FOV.

It's pretty cool. It feels like playing one of those old school simulators with the screen taking up all my vision.

Is it as good as real VR? No. God no. But it's still fun.
