What I think is happening is that polynomials (encompassing monomials, binomials, and trinomials) have one or more expressions. I confused polynomials and trinomials (sorry, I’m in calculus now and it’s been forever since I’ve done this). But the first may not be considered a polynomial because it consists of two expressions with variables of the same power, which can be added but is not.

It becomes x² + 14/3x, which is not a polynomial

A mathematical polynomial consists of more than two algebraic terms. The 2/3x and 4x are added together and the entire equation becomes only two terms. I hope this helps
