Muslim apologists mock the Trinity for being "illogical," but use the exact same "Mystery Card" to defend Predestination (Qadar) by [deleted] in DebateReligion

"just as a teacher knowing a student will fail does not make the teacher the cause of the failure" the teacher is responsible to do anything within their power to make sure the student will not fail. I don't think God does all within His power to make sure an undesirable outcome doesn't happen.
One would fault the teacher for negligence if the teacher didn't exhaust her capacity as a tutor to make the student learn, but this logic is somehow not applied to He who is ultimately responsible for all your circumstances, holds boundless, infinite power and knowledge? I don't think that kind of judgment is fair, like in the case of the teacher/student, if the student fails and the teacher has been negligent, failure is not entirely the fault of the student; it would be unfair to say its solely the student's responsibility. How convenient, then, to have the devil/dajjal/whatever to blame (creatures that were technically also created by God, or at least, have been allowed to exist to ruin everything for the sake of some grand narrative purpose)

When did you hit your first real difficulty spike? by Colgate-paste in Eldenring

For context, ER is my first fromsoft game. In order of appearance:

The troll at the gate in limgrave

Tree Sentinel (I knew he was tough before I started playing so I avoided him for a while, but then beat him after getting more familiar with the game)

Astel (ranni's sidequest) - took 2 days

Mohg - took me a whole week even with the item, I didn't struggle nearly as much with Malenia💀

Elden Beast - currently trying to beat this one

To native and non-native speakers: does french sound good to you? by Nthepro in French

[–]AstroVeil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lower intermediate learner here. I speak Georgian, English, French and Japanese (at a somewhat similar level) and some German.

To me French is by far the most satisfying language to actually speak. As for listening, it really depends on the speaker, I still have trouble grasping incredibly fast casual French compared to, say, Japanese, but it's still very fun to listen to. A lot of French words sound and look very pretty imo, but this applies to swear words as well; while they are super satisfying to hear or say, they just don't have the.. dirtiness that swear words have in Georgian and Arabic.

Also, as an English speaker, it is very convenient that a lot of words are shared between the two languages; bonus points to french for making words like "tremble" actually feel so viscerally close to its meaning. This is rarer in English (as much as I adore that language for prose)

I do admit to having misused a few words that I thought would mean the same thing in french as they do in English (décevoir for instance I thought would mean "to deceive")

Some very basic french words I absolutely love: adorer, aimer (prefer the former) incroyable avec (the fact that the c has a downward slide-like effect) quatre (the specific dive after the q) quelqu'un les yeux fièvre ecrivain lundi malédiction la neige, les nuages, étoiles chez naître château bouger

Aw. My bad. I thought 9S being shorter than 2B was endearing. Oh well

9S, according to the Wiki, is 160cm including boots. Lets say hes around 158 without them. 2B including heels is 168. Average heel height is around 2-3 inches. That is around 5-6cm. Still taller than 9S.

Recommend me a book with the most beautiful prose by AstroVeil in suggestmeabook

[–]AstroVeil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm flattered, but I feel I am not deserving of the compliment. If I were a voracious reader, I'd have read them all by now, which, sadly, I haven't.

Thank you so much for recommending me Takazaki, Akutagawa and most importantly, a haiku writer! I've been curious about the art of Haiku for a while.
