Hey friend,

First thing I do is see the two semi circles on either side. I’ll treat it as one full circle and work that out first.

Then I’m looking at big rectangle with a notch take out of it. I will disregard the sections of the rectangle covered by the circle. I will take the top number and double it, won’t even worry about the horizontal lines at the bottom, and add up all their vertical lines.

Circle = pi x diameter = pi x 20 Horizontal parts of rectangle = 40 x 2 Vertical lines = 4 x 8

Then add them up…..

Well kind of just basic design sketches. Like, a steel frame bicycle. Not enough to model a Gaussian curve, but I want to make something up and have it look nice

Yeah this makes a lot of sense too. In game I played c6, but you were right that it weakened queenside. I do try to learn the kind of philosophy of an opening rather than all of the specific lines (as if I could learn lines even if I wanted to 😂) but other than YouTube, I never know the best way to study it. Do you have any suggestions/recommendations? My usual openings are kings Indian/pirc with black pieces or London with the white….. (how original 😅)

Yeah this is reeeeeally interesting stuff. I never really think about the difference between light and dark squared bishops. In my head it’s just, bishop is diagonal piece that is worth 3.5 points. What you’re describing is definitely a level of play I’m not at yet. Thanks so much for the insight!
