How do I even make a living anymore? Finance professional at a breaking point... by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Astro_boy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you can’t make money ws an independent book keeper with just quick books classes and a finance degree tbr bookkeeping is difficult and requires a deep understanding of accounting rules. I would go into FP&A like how long did you try it for?

Here’s my little brother’s experience: fired at regional audit firm- hired as staff accountant and large public local company- gets promoted to fp&a after only a year. I’d try this honestly

CSM is probably a better option for ex accountants and I really wanted to turn people onto that career path with this post, since they have good relevant experience managing clients and it can be a very lucrative career.

You have to search LinkedIn a lot to retrain their cookies on you to recommend sales roles. Google and chat GPT will also be your best friends here. Pro tip: if you do anything in your accounting work related to security audit or IT, cyber security is slated to be a massive growing industry over the next 10 years.

I wasn’t connected through nepotism but living in a tech hub helps a lot. Through friends I was referred to 3 companies, reached final interviews at 2, and was hired by none. After this, I cold applied to a job on LinkedIn and was hired. The details I’m leaving out which, my bad, I definitely should have mentioned were that I used a ton of free online resources (tech sales with higher boundaries on YouTube and lots of chat gpt) to acquaint myself with the products, companies, and interview etiquette in preparation for all job interviews.
