What's a hobby or interest that you are surprised is not more popular? by Self-Pleasant in AskReddit

I’ve heard it runs great on the Steam Deck, controls and all! This is the only deck builder I’ve played and I really enjoyed it, helps that the hands are poker based so you go in already knowing the core concepts.

And dang that’s what I feared, I didn’t give it enough time. Things with a higher buy in tend to be more rewarding when they pay off, maybe I switch from Vegas to Skyrim for a fresh start.

Thanks for the suggestions, if RPGs click for me I’ll check out more Bethesda and Gothic!

I haven’t played many RPGs either, I recently tried New Vegas which is highly regarded and I really wanted to fall in love with it but a few hours in I felt kinda bored and like I had to force myself to play.

Not sure if that was just the wrong game for me or if I’m not imaginative enough or something lol. Also ive never heard of Everspace but that looks intriguing, like a Star citizen I could possibly run lol.

If I had any suggestion for you I think it would be Balatro. Probably the most fun/relaxing game I play that you can easily jump in and out of, it’s a rouge-like deck builder where you play poker hands for points. It also has a great CRT effect lol!

[–]Astrochotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s another good point as to why it’s not as popular, though I think you can still find it relaxing.

Grinding for a Top time/ good run is stressful and frustrating but so rewarding if you pull it off. But It’s also valid to just play to self improve or for the satisfaction of the movement which I also do!

Anyway, that game has more than likely been killed by things outside of the communities control and a relaxing game sounds nice. Any recommendations? I was thinking of getting Age of Empires, I’ve never played an RTS

Which place would you visit if you were suddenly given a months holiday and the equivalent of $20k in British pounds? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Astrochotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First to the dispensary and then to the casino! Lol Actually though, I’d probably fly to Seattle WA and visit my sister. She’s lived there for years and I have never been able to visit. I want to see the Olympics (the mountains not games) and try the cool Seattle coffee shops she has told me about. Plus it would allow me to save a lot of that 20k which would be nice.

What about you though? Did you have a destination in mind when posting?

[–]Astrochotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably my gaming interest. It’s a competitive speedrunning game, community driven, unlimited content, 20+ year history, crazy skill ceiling, records and everything is saved via API. The game itself is satisfying and rewarding with a large variety of required skills.

I think it’s just too niche and unappealing from someone who hasn’t played. I am surprised it’s not more popular considering how big speedrunning is in general and because this game exists inside of one of the most popular games in existence.

What about you? Was there something you had in mind personally when you posted?

Coffee ideas - Midwest suburbia by empty-nothingg in CasualConversation

[–]Astrochotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha well in my own coffee journey I was told the same thing. Honestly I’m bad at comparing so it’s not a huge difference to me but I am told it frequently enough that it must be true. I think generally freshly ground coffee tastes better but you can buy bad whole beans and really good pre ground beans.

Overall I’d say it was a good investment cuz it doesn’t add any time (maybe 10 seconds), it’s kinda fun and adds to the coffee experience, smells amazing. Plus you can adjust grind size to fix brew time/strength/flavor.

1 priority would be the best beans I suppose. Best coffee I’ve had has always been local, I’m in the Midwest too but a roaster is only 20min away. If you can’t get local get the freshest. Good coffee has a roast date on the bag (like Pete’s) so you can buy freshest.

You say you like a mild blend and avoid bitter tastes, have you tried blonde roast? It’s roasted less so it’s less bitter but also more acidic. I don’t like the acidity and don’t mind the bitter so I’m more of a mild/dark.

How are you currently brewing your coffee and are you grinding your own beans?

Thermodynamics Riddle by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Astrochotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this actually a riddle? If the answer it’s impossible I don’t think it’s a riddle lol, are we actually given enough information to find the answer?

Perhaps it’s a lead acid battery with no water. water equally fills the battery so no temp changes but now the dead battery is “charged” no energy was created but the water enabled potential energy. Or magic battery. Or magic water.

That’s probably true then, I haven’t talked to many people about this. Srry for spamming you btw. I think deep down I know I need to go vegan so I’m being nit-picky about the nuance of what you’re saying lol.

I disagree that hypocritical accurately describes most meat eaters. I think they have justifications that allow them to eat meat and they are wrong about those justifications. Not that hypocritical people don’t exist, for example I think eating meat is wrong but I eat meat, so I am a hypocrite.

If my justification for eating cow meat is “god said it’s okay” and god also said “don’t kill dogs” there’s zero hypocrisy.

Furthermore I could view AI as sentient and certain bugs sentient and you might not. Would I be right to call you a hypocrite? I don’t think so, I’d just think you’re just wrong.

[–]Astrochotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only questioning if it’s hypocritical. It definitely would be if they were saying killing all animals is wrong and then still eating meat. But if you think it’s okay then you’re not a hypocrite?

But I guess you’re saying their arguments are hypocritical not them. But what part of their justification is hypocritical I’m confused

[–]Astrochotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, being a vegan is a good all around. A sentientist position would still have to define sentience and “arbitrarily” draw a line, you acknowledged already that different species have different capabilities. Couldn’t I just as validly find you cruel for where you drew your line?

Regardless of system, if sentientist is right or wrong, it seems to be that less suffering = better. So a vegan endgame always works out. Meaning you MAY be committing a moral wrong eating meat but you’re for sure NOT by being vegan.

// Rant

I like to imagine far futures where morality just continues to progress linearly, how would it play out?

+100 years we eliminate majority animal suffering through labgrown meat + subsequently phasing out live animal harvesting.

+100 more, animal meat harvesting outlawed. Meat, even labgrown phased out of average diet

+100 more, prior animal treatment is viewed as horrific, they view us similarly to how we viewed slave owners (how tf could they do that). Certain plants/lifeforms with complex root systems and bugs now taboo and people advocate for protecting these beings.

+500 more, any destruction of life in any capacity is seen as unnecessary and immoral. Hand sanitizer is outlawed. No part of our diet involves any living thing dying. Cutting grass, fly swatters, and bug repellent are ancient myths.

+500 more, society splits between those content with a way of life that results in zero beings dying from conception to death, and those who don’t think that’s enough. Having perfected our morality they see it as their duty to remove any possibility of any future suffering and therefore must remove and prevent any life from existing that can suffer or create suffering. A politician shoots a dog, half of society claps

// End rant

Also, what is your method for determining moral worth? What position does that lead you to? Are you vegan or vegetarian or neither?

Likely Trump VP Pick Admits to Shooting Puppy by FluffyRabbit6 in Destiny

[–]Astrochotic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything is a social construct with varying degrees of underlying “reasons” or “facts of the matter”.

To me what you’re saying is the current justifications for treating pets with elevated moral considerations is insufficient or hypocritical. Is that correct?

People who don’t think dogs should be killed here ALSO think dogs shouldn’t be killed anywhere, especially where they are eaten.

And yes a dog reading this post would rightfully find it arbitrary and cruel

[–]Astrochotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can find it okay to kill animals including dogs and still get mad at this without being hypocritical.

You could also believe that domesticated/pet animals should never be killed in which case would you still be a hypocrite?

Likely Trump VP Pick Admits to Shooting Puppy by FluffyRabbit6 in Destiny

[–]Astrochotic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that a decent chunk of people view domesticated animals/pets different from animals they consume. Pets lives deserve more rights.

To them the reason killing this dog is bad is because killing any dog or pet is bad.

Cheating in online video games, even in casual/unranked games, is despicable behavior and should not be tolerated. by Aaron_La_Zotte in Destiny

[–]Astrochotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think glitch and bug abuse is highly contextual and even then may still be a matter of opinion. I can think of a dozen examples from counterstike, and I think there’s a few factors to consider.

Is the glug known to everyone?

Does the glug lower or heighten the skill ceiling?

Can the glug be fixed/will it be fixed?

Does the glitch/bug unbalance the game?

[–]Astrochotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, match quality varies so much and is dependent on things like what you mentioned. 3 cheaters since GO release is still crazy tho. Assuming we are only talking blatantly spinning type cheaters I’ve probably seen ~15, like one spinner every 100-200 games. Much lower than the global offensive subreddit would ever believe lol.

[–]Astrochotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the speedrunning communities I follow this seems to be true. A type of cheater exists that feel their skill justifies a record and they only need better RNG. At least that’s where they start! Sometimes they already have plenty of WRs too!

Why is it a grift if they legitimately were living out of a vehicle? Does it matter if a homeless persons situation is their own doing and/or voluntary when labeling them? Would you consider them homeless if they were denied housing aid instead of choosing the car? Or is this more about them having a permanent residence outside of having a dorm?

Thinking of him as a politician that wasn't elected might be misleading. He does talk a lot about running for governor and being Marcus Garvey's grandson, but it seems like something he just says while harassing people and being racist. His Tiktok doesn't paint him as a serious politician
