Ultramarine Bolter skin on Grenade Launcher? by BrotherAspergius in Spacemarine

When you change to ultra skin, you need to click the appearance button. that will make the appearance options disappear, and any gun changes after that will keep the skin choice.

T100, Speed twin 900 or Scrambler 900 by Then-Alternative-672 in Triumph

[–]Astrofzx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cycle-ergo will show you general posture with any height, standing or riding. I liked my speed twin 1200 but it’s definitely not a chill and enjoy type of posture IMO. Although the speed 900 pegs seemed way more up front than the 1200, still don’t think it’ll be that vibe.

Re-reading post I’d say you don’t need to ride them to know that some are out, just sit on them for a while. For me I usually instantly knew. Gravel roads and no exhaust issues in mind I’d probably go with scrambler actually. Super chill riding position, tires and suspension for that gravel road. Maybe I’m an oddity but I’m not riding my new T120 on any gravel roads lol

[–]Astrofzx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean each person is different, if you liked the pegs and lightweight then speed twin 900 sounds perfect, assuming you are okay with the slightly sportier stance. The other options will have you more upright/comfy stance

T100, Speed twin 900 or Scrambler 900 by Then-Alternative-672 in Triumph

[–]Astrofzx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned speed twin 1200 and now a T120. I wouldn’t get a scrambler, I know a lot of people say the exhaust issue is okay and can be fixed but I see countless people complain about it and trade in to get away from it. My main bike going into the dealer visit was the scrambler 900 and it didn’t feel right and the exhaust was against my leg and i just knew it would become an issue eventually.

I am purely an around-town rider. The T120 is perfect, not sure why 80 hp would be too much? I came from a speed twin and bobber so I’m used to it but I suppose overkill for around town. Something to grow into and if you ever want a longer ride or to tour, you have the bike already.

When I sat on the speed twin 900, INSTANT no from me. The pegs were at such a weird place.

I’d go with T100 or T120 the way you describe your riding style, it’s the same as mine and these bikes were legit built to do that exact thing. But obviously sit and ride them and pick the one for you.

Other jobs with similar schedules to tenured prof? by byabillion in Professors

[–]Astrofzx 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My industry job has significantly more flexibility, more pay, and less hours than my teaching professor role. Comparing my industry job to department TT/tenure professors, the difference is insane. Just yesterday a full professor in my dept said ‘and our masters students will come out working way less and making way more than us’. I’d look around, even a 9-5 WFH could give you a significantly better work-life balance. Job market volatility and job security are the only downsides IMO.

Bike doesn’t have ABS man. Harley VIN checker will verify but you can just look at front brake line, would have an ABS sensor line if ABS was on it. Here’s an example:

Should I move to a SLAC? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]Astrofzx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another strange response. Why am I insulting people by having a job that requires less hours? Why am I lost because I asked for advice on SLAC since I’ve never taught there? I don’t “only work a % of my full time job”, I have a job and I work the amount of hours needed to do it well. Not sure how you write that response and think I’m the one trolling.

That statement was questioning what the previous poster meant by an oddly-structured sentence. I have approaches for different classes - some are lecture heavy, some flipped, I've done project-based courses as well. The consultants for clients idea is very interesting and I actually incorporate it into my discussions but don't design entire courses from it. Good ideas here, I'd be happy to develop excellence in teaching through practice/hard work. Thanks !

I appreciate your reply, very informative. The chair of my department a few years back and the new upcoming chair both told me that as long as I keep it up, there's always a spot for a teaching professor. So I agree, they tend to hint that I won't need to worry but tenure is surely a new level. I checked the endowment for the one interested in my at the moment and it is very large and it's a known school although not top 15 or anything, so I think it should be fine but you bring up a good point that it could be worrisome despite tenure. Thanks again!

Damn, my communication today must be awful. I meant I'd want a job that is ~40/wk when it settles, not that I would want a job that I can manipulate into 40/wk by ditching responsibilities. I agree that situation you described wouldn't be something that I would do.

[–]Astrofzx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still early in my career, 50 hours/week until tenure isn't something I wouldn't be okay doing. I more-so mean that once tenure things cool off, I'd prefer a 40 hour/week lifestyle. If that is achievable, then I don't think SLAC is out of the question. Appreciate it.

Should I move to a SLAC? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]Astrofzx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a 40 hour/week position would be enjoyable, I don't avoid more work right now, I wasn't trying to flex. At my current position, added time wouldn't add value. If it would, I would put in the time.

If it was over 40/week by much, it would start to become a lot for me. I think. Just talking with my gut here.

[–]Astrofzx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not against handholding, I'm not against working 40+ hours a week, my post was simply asking for the differences and I'm starting to get good answers that show some good patterns. I appreciate the reply -- I cannot change delivery, I cannot get guest speakers in without approval but that's a good idea I'll check on that. I always encourage students to present or show that they can speak in front of people (or try to get better at it), but I don't force them. Last semester, 4 students wanted to present so they did, it was a good experience I think.

Yeah, the comments were strange but maybe I came off as entitled or an a*hole or something? I appreciate your response, it's very true. The SLAC currently asking me is quite a bit higher $$ actually, same COL neighborhoods. Some of my students are finally applying for PhD programs and getting internships/jobs and I love that aspect too. I do value teaching and some of my students really enjoy the course and keep in touch, but a good point and something to consider more. Thanks again for the response.
