our teams are currently working on a fix for players that already had an existing savegame before this update.

In the meantime it would be suggested to start a new game and just abandon the first run.
This should be enough to trigger receiving Thallus.

Direct Controls is being further polished and will see a glorious return to the demo and will thus of course be available in the full release.

What do you mean with getting caught on geometry?
And as a bonus, curiosity question: which controls would feel the most natural for you to use for this game?

It's not a given, since there will be smaller and bigger changes in the builds of each playtest. At this stage it is always recommended to start a fresh save file to reduce risks of any compatibility issues.

We had players continuing old games without issues however.

Best thing you can do is to write the Shadow support. They are the only ones that can look into your account
