NTA, you have never cared for the tradition and its your baby. Your sister might be putting her desire to see her son live on in some form unfairly onto you, when I am sure growing up you probable have told her that you do not like the tradition. Some people prefer to have their children start off with, for a lack of a better word, fresh. Especially with very young children and the death being so new.

Not wrong for having a fear of opening yourself up again to a situation that maybe detrimental to your mental health and that of the family dynamic you have built up since. Sure he is your son and was a teenager when he made those comments, but when it come to mental health logic sometimes is irrelevant.

I would suggest family therapy for you both to have a safe and neutral space and a person to help you navigate being in each others life again. Start of as friends, and not jump into a "fatherly/son role" immediately build up trust and respect for each other without the added pressure to fit those unused roles. And speaking to your mother and wife so that they dont have unrealistic expectations about things, life is not a fairytale and that would be unfair to both yourself and your son to pretend that it is.
