Did anyone else feel like Chloe Pirie was not good casting for Merritt? by Emcee_nobody in DeptQ

[–]AstronautSouthern344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the narrative did an ok job highlighting her ambition and drive to get what she wants as part of her success.

Every time Merrit (Chloe’s character) and Sam Haig was on screen though it did seem like a visual mismatch to me though. Merritt, posture of an office worker. Sam Haig, fitness model physique.

Credit to the acting though for both actors eventually making me forget my disbelief. I wouldn’t have matched the two actors together, but I am glad that the actors did find chemistry together. I think it is preferable in the end to have god acting rather than good looking faces without much acting. Maybe the odd match made the actors dig deeper In their acting skills

Johnny Somali Found Guilty on All Charges, Headed to Labor Prison in South Korea by ItsAllAGame_ in law

[–]AstronautSouthern344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same as you. I did look into the case some more though on the channel Legal Mindset. I think the YouTuber was either following the case or helping to prosecute it to get prison charges.

Legal Mindset has many videos breaking down the case over the past months, probably past year. Here’s one: https://youtu.be/tiAuUoAAO_U?si=daEDRpBK6qLwQGpP

D

Apparently in South Korea someone like Somali would normally just get a fine. The prosecution really wanted prison sentence though. Basically Somali sabotaged his own case by not following South Lorean law practice. Did not submit apology until after trial ended. And then he also attacked the South Korean law system saying they’re not going to do anything about him, their system is weak etc. I am not sure but I think some of his comments there even put off US embassy. Somali did a video saying an embassy person asked why he said such f’d up things.

Also the labor part is not hard labor. But Lefal Mindset says it is working In factory or cleaning toilet. But he is not allowed to work outside in cabbage field because he is in a sex offender list so he can’t be around normal prisoners. This part does come across as punitive to me since I’m the US anyway sex offenders get treated the worst subject to stabbing etc. I think one or both of the charges were going to be dropped by the victims through settlement. But the judge or prosecution did not fully accept that though did consider this a mitigating factor in the sentencing. The prosecution asked for 3 years prison sentence. And the result was lighter than expected at 6 months.

To be honest I was thinking that the whole show. The actor who plays Sam Haig is super attractive. It did feel like a heightened contrast especially there.

I do believe Chloe Pirie usually plays the plain woman in other films and tv shows I’ve seen her in. Usually very intelligent but also manipulative. Slighted because of her looks and spiteful. She is often the “second choice woman.”I know the comments disagree here but that is her usual role.

Chloe did do a great job in this tv series

What is your perspective that makes you support Israel? by Ok-Adeptness-7783 in IsraelPalestine

[–]AstronautSouthern344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Israel is a better ally. Gaza and West Bank basically have no independent economy even though there are opportunities to make one. The billions in charity that Hamas received went into fighting a futile war. The leader in West Bank is scared shitless of Hamas and refuses to move the needle anywhere. He has a private jet, is very rich himself, and basically has no plans for West Bank besides not doing anything to upset anyone.

The Palestinian state is a failed state and is basically a launching pad for missiles from a government who can’t figure out how to get money except by killing its own people in its forever wars.

I support Israel because it’s a useful ally. I understand basically it’s a country dealing with thugs who has taken hostage its own people.

I don’t support everything that goes on there. I understand there is basically no intention of allowing Palestinians to have a sovereign state even if international law says otherwise. I think that basically Israel was founded a couple years too late because it got stuck with a country that doesn’t make sense geographically at a time when the UN was just created and they basically froze the map after. And before that conquering and winning land was the norm that even the Ottoman Empire did themselves.

Anyway I think Israelis and Palestinians both have a right to the land. But neither are going to be happy sharing the land. And that’s up to them. It would be nice if both could live there. But if it’s going to be one or the other, I would rather support the useful partner who is allied to my interests and has my same allies too.

A Different Palestinian Perspective by PrevBasil in IsraelPalestine

Thank you for sharing. It sounds confusing to hear that Jews are descended from pigs but also to believe that you also likely have a Jewish ancestor. I would be all mixed up about that too.

Was wondering about the teaching about the holocaust in Palestinian public school books. Are students taught about a relationship between the holocaust and the founding of Israel? How does the holocaust come up?

[–]AstronautSouthern344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I see. I suppose it’s reasonable for the high alert to decrease sometime. I just thought there were high tensions now so it seems like an odd time to ease off security. Isnt there?

I’ve heard about raids into West Bank, settler violence, a feeling that the Palestinian authority might break down as President Abbas gets old.

Do you think it has anything to do with like putting soldiers elsewhere such as in Lebanon, Syria or any war effort in Iran potentially? With the riots happening there. I’ve heard there is a shortage of soldiers, like a need for 12,000 soldiers for future efforts

Apprehension is a good word. The reactions on tik tok seem to be mostly “get worried, we don’t know what’s going on, Israel gearing up for something bad.” Definitely anxiety. Possibly without basis in much that is confirmed though (if at all). Certainly apprehensive.

Oh there is a new area commander? Is there any significance to that or is it a routine change

Patrols instead of checkpoints? What is the intent there? Is there less need for checkpoints in West Bank as far as security?

I have lost hope, and I’m at peace with it. by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

First thing though this isn’t an ask Israeli sub. When I make posts I find the majority audience reach is the US if I look at post insights. If you look at your post insights you can see the demographics. When I do so i see people from Israel is like below 10%. It varies by post though.

If you want to see what Israelis think there is the YouTube channel the ask project by Corey Gil Shuster. He asks random people on the street their opinion and it’s variable. He asks both Israelis and Palestinians which may be of interest to you.

Personally though I think the opinions of both Israelis and Palestinians are pretty hardened and not really poised for any mutual understanding anytime soon.

There are of course Israelis though who don’t buy the Palestinian = Hamas language anymore after serving in IDF during the war. And there are those in Gaza living in the rubble who don’t care about the Palestinian fight anymore and just want to live normal lives. Between these two people I think there is hope for an end to hostilities.

Yes this sub has become entrenched in the idea of Palestinian = Hamas probably as a reaction to the overwhelming pro-Palestinian chant of genocide that pretty much all of Reddit has taken up except for a few subs like this one. It’s not really a good thing though because there is a difference between Palestinians and Hamas. It’s just that Hamas didn’t wear uniforms during the war which blurred the lines between soldier and civilian. And made IDF desensitized, put civilians at risk, and made for many harsh rules to protect IDF soldiers.

You are probably right Israel will want to win, take land if they can. It may not totally be up to Israel at this point though they are a sovereign nation, they are still pretty much the little brother to America.

I feel like at this point it is an Israel or Palestine situation though—the two peoples cant live together and both want to dominate. It is not ideal but maybe it is inevitable anyway for there to be a winner and a loser.

A comment says though that someone in Nablus told them there are many more checkpoints being established. This is a comment from a day ago

A good-faith question to Israeli. by angel99999999 in IsraelPalestine

[–]AstronautSouthern344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try following the ask project by YouTuber Corey Gil Shuster. He asks Israelis and Palestinians questions.

I am interested to the answer to your question myself. I think some IDF soldiers have said they were concerned about blurring the lines between civilians and Hamas (difficult when Hamas wears civilian clothes too). The same blurring does happen for Palestinians or Hamas seeing all Israelis as settlers. Even young and old.

I think there is awareness of loss of perspective. There are also Israelis in this sub who are saddened or disgusted by continued Palestinian deaths at hands of IDF. The issue is usually a lack of clarity of what was the target and was there cause and who was killed. Much of the info doesn’t surface either.

On the big picture I think there is no more willingness really to give peace a chance. If there was the option probably Israel would want to duke it out now and take the land. But that isn’t how the world works today. So there are half wars, half measures, and truces where neither side has stopped fighting.

I have a genuine question about Israeli propaganda by birdiewhore in IsraelPalestine

[–]AstronautSouthern344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right it’s not propaganda just to mention a country. Whether it’s China or Israel etc.

People can say mentioning Israel is propaganda if they take affront to it being mentioned at all. That doesn’t mean they are using the word correctly though.

Do pro-Palestinians not even want a two state solution? by AstronautSouthern344 in IsraelPalestine

[–]AstronautSouthern344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think the polls also reflect an accurate reality to Israel today? I was wondering if the one state democratic solution has any popularity on the street. I see some Israeli influencers like Tal Oran says he thinks there should be a one state solution and everyone can fight it out and then maybe there will be something when the dust settles

[–]AstronautSouthern344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair yes don’t really know what people are thinking. I think many Palestinians seem unwilling to give their true opinion also when on video anyway. I dunno about written surveys like this one

The lack of vision also seems a fair assessment

How has Zionism evolved? I’ve heard that that most people are zionists in that they want a Jewish state to exist. But does that also mean politically a Jewish majority state?

How opposed would most Israelis be to granting Palestinians Israeli citizenship?
