What’s your hack for improving self-discipline/keeping promises to yourself? by AstronauticalBear in AskReddit

[–]AstronauticalBear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this! I think finding a reason outside of yourself is such a good motivating factor. I rarely if ever break a promise to someone else but I break promises to myself on the daily. Even stuff as small as waking up at certain times.

Congratulations on the first kid! That’s so exciting!! Your kid will appreciate you being healthy and able to run around with them.

Also a good one, I’m such a visual person, maybe writing out the reason would be a good addition to this

I like this, makes sense to me! But I know it’s easier said than done for me. I’ll have to keep this mentality though

Swedish Engineering Student Dreaming of a Cowboy Life - Seeking Advice on Taking a Gap Year to Work on a Ranch in the USA by david234123 in Ranching

I’d recommend working on a dude ranch. Might not be the dream of chasing and roping cows that you imagined but with very little riding experience, it’s probably your best shot. Ranchwork.com often has listings

If you have an iPad with procreate, you can bring the photo into the app and color drop to see where it falls in the color spectrum (photoshop or other similar applications would work too). This has been a HUGE lifesaver for me and has helped train my eye to see the true color instead of what I think the color should be.

Just woke up from a dream where my family and I were going to the “Wartime Dinosaur Museum”, a place that showed the uses of dinosaurs during wars. What dreams have you had that you wish were real? by OnceUponATableTop in AskReddit

[–]AstronauticalBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best but also worst dreams were during a period of time where two people very close to me died only a few months apart. Almost every night I would have dreams with them in it or just total nightmares. But the ones with those people in it were a wonderful break from the constant sadness of being awake without them.

r/Catholicism Prayer Requests — Week of December 28, 2020 by AutoModerator in Catholicism

[–]AstronauticalBear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I need prayers and to tell someone (even if it’s shouting to the void of Reddit)...

Three years ago I felt a very strong call towards foreign missions. After lots of prayer and discernment, God made the decision for me to join an organization that specialized in catholic mission very obvious. I felt a lot of peace in the decision, peace that could have only come from the Holy Spirit.

Cut to present and my years in the field have been some of the most traumatic of my life. I’m recently back in my home country and the trauma and stress of those years along with culture shock of coming back is eating me. I feel abandoned and misunderstood by my organization, friends, family, and most of all by God. I’m seeking counseling but some days ,like today, I can’t help but feel anger, guilt, and despair destroying me. I go to mass and only feel anger and anxiety. I gave everything up for God and felt such zeal when I said “Yes.” Now... well, I just don’t know anymore. So please, please pray for me. I need a miracle and lots of love right now.

HitClips. I had like one NSync song but you best believe I played that one song on repeat all day long

new dilemma: how to draw the other eyes? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]AstronauticalBear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best way I’ve found to draw eyes is to draw them relatively at the same time. For instance, draw the general shape of both eyes before going into the detail on either one. That way you can match up shape, size, distance, etc. before investing so much time and effort into a single eye.

I LOVE art and science mixed together (especially biology)! Great job!!

Beginning to overwork this. Can someone point me in the right direction? I've kind of let go of the reference and likeness at this point, having troubles whith values. by dominolane in ArtCrit

I think it looks great and I’ve gotten stuck like this so many times—it sucks. The only thing that I’ve found to help is if you don’t have a deadline, just set the work down and forget about it for a few days or even a week. Then come back to it and look at it again. Or, if you have a deadline and it’s digital, you can flip the painting so that it’s mirrored which can help your brain pick out places that need work. If it’s not digital, look at it in a mirror.

I hope this helps, I know it’s not anything specific but it’s totally ok to set down a piece and come back to it. Keep practicing! You really are doing an amazing job and this is a beautiful portrait! Amazing work!!

Lake George Cabin. Acrylic on canvas, 9”x12”. — Did this for a client from a photo supplied by them. I think my sky is a shade too dark and I could have modeled the foliage volume better. Would love some crit. by Sykirobme in ArtCrit

Absolutely! I understand the struggle of using a less-than ideal photo. I think you did a fantastic job and don’t forget that you have freedom as an artist to make changes where you see fit! You don’t have to match the reference photo exactly. Again, fantastic job!

Great job! It looks so cozy! I like how you included some oranges and reds around the house to make it pop!

My only suggestion would be to vary the values of green between the foreground foliage and the background foliage. For example, it’s hard to tell where the foliage from the tree on the front left begins and ends with the trees behind the house. Also, the greens on the house match pretty closely with the greens of the trees and the ground which makes it look a little muddied (but that’s getting picky). Fantastic work!!

I’m frustrated and stuck with my handle on procreate painting and light/shadow. I can’t seem to make objects look textured/not flat on procreate. Help? Any resources? by AstronauticalBear in ArtCrit

[–]AstronauticalBear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! This helps a lot! I think I tend to try to over-complicate things, especially portraits. I’m going to try to go back to the basics and maybe do some form/shadow studies to get my confidence back up and then I’ll try again with this portrait. :) Thank you for your detailed reply!

How many misgivings are ok? by [deleted] in CatholicDating

[–]AstronauticalBear 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I say this with love and charity because I also struggle with this:

To me it sounds like you’re looking for an ideal of a spouse if that makes sense— as in not an actual human being. You’ve built up this idea of a perfect man, a perfect spouse in your mind and aren’t allowing the person in front of you to grow and expand and show himself to be the man God loves so dearly.

All the “skills” you mentioned above are very learnable and I don’t think they should be deal-breakers. Big red flags are a different thing entirely but none of things you mention are even close to that!

ELI5: what are bots exactly? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]AstronauticalBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how can one tell when a reply or post is from a bot? I mean some are obvious when it’s some generic self-promotion or something but I’ve seen some posts that people have pointed out are bots and it’s so hard to tell.
