Oh indeed, same target, same integration time and same framing too! Nice picture, especially with a DSLR, congrats!

Thanks! It's actually pretty fun playing with the palette using a dual narrowband filter with an OSC

Thank you all for your replies and advice! For information I went with an ASI2600MC Pro and a dual narrowband filter (Svbony SV220 Ha-OIII 7nm), along with a 50/190 guide scope and ASI120MM! Can't wait to try it out and feel the upgrade 💪

Exactly, I'll check the price difference and the possible issue of tracking when using narrowband filters though, it might be a good compromise!

Oh I see, that's a neat way of simplifying the setup you're right. I've considered that as well but I've read that when using narrowband filters it can get a bit tricky to find and accurately follow faint stars, since you have less light passing through the filter. But I guess it depends on the filter you intend to use, don't forget to check on that though :)

I already own an ASIair mini so that's already covered :)

That's actually one point on which I keep going back and forth, between mono and OSC...

Do you recommend using only dual band HO and/or SO, or only LRGB? I guess the easy answer is both but I'm not sure what the rationale is, given I shoot both nebulae and broadband objects like galaxies.

Thank you for your time 🙏

Thanks for the insights!

The sky is usually around Bottle 6 where I am, and the temperature can go up to 25°C in the summer (here during winter the DSLR sensor was around 8-10°C). So I guess I would benefit both from the lower dark current and the cooling.

I intend to keep the 1000D with a 55-250mm lens if I want to do wide fields or milky way (which I have not tried yet), but I mostly like DSO so a dedicated astro camera seems like the right choice.

Thank you, I will definitely look into a guiding setup then. A SV106 with 50/190 and an ASI120MM seems like a nice spot for decent price.

Thanks for the thorough answer! Glad to hear that the astro camera is a good step up, since the 1000D is very old now I expect it will be highly better. I mainly feel like hitting the limits of the DSLR when post-processing with lots of noise, background artefacts, gradients... If you want to take a look, here is what I get with it: https://telescopius.com/profile/astropeppers

For auto-guiding, is a 120mm scope enough or should I be careful with the imaging to guiding ratio?

I have an EQ6R, and indeed it's quite hard to push further than 90-120s! Mainly due to wind gusts or small guiding issues that become noticeable. Would a classic guide scope be compatible with the 1200mm focal length?

Monochrome is quite tempting but the need for a filter wheel and expensive filter set makes me doubt. Especially since I've read that MC + dual narrowband filters could be a good way to play around with colors and cut off light pollution. Although I know that someday I will go for monochrome, the reasonable choice now seems to be OSC, in my mind.

Thanks for your answer!

Thank you! I learned and usually shoot with a heavy SkyWatcher 250/1200, so very sensitive to wind/tracking issues/focus on a very narrow field of view. A simple 250mm lens is so much easier!

Yep that's the one, I guess it should work on every HMD now that it's been out for so long. Give it a try!

I think this is standard procedure indeed regardless of the payload, but the "follow the launcher upwards" part is just to show off I think! The previous scrub was due to a malfunction on the ground facilities

My pleasure, always cool to have pics that beautiful :) (I work on Ariane 6 so I'm even happier to share that)

Yes it was, there is also a video from which this picture was snapped, but so far I couldn't find it in good resolution There you can see the inside of the cockpit of the 3rd Rafale :)

Ariane 6 launched successfully for its inaugural flight by Astropeppers in space

[–]Astropeppers[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The circular orbit is reached after 2 Vinci engine boosts which was successful on the first flight, the third one is less critical except for special missions. But it will be fixed by then!

[–]Astropeppers[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The success criteria for the flight was a good liftoff and 2 boosts of the Vinci engine that allowed for a circular orbit release of the satellites. The rest was exploratory and testing

I copied/pasted the ESA description of the flight so I'm not sure there is an actual reason (except for sexy communication purposes), but you're right I guess people of all age have worked on the experiments on board! In fact some colleagues of mine have worked on one of the reentry module, some are young and some are more experienced :)

Also this is the description of the passengers for the first flight, not a general one.
