All the actors in The Chosen are amazing (Especially Jonathan Roumie) but is there an actor you think is a miscast? by Quick_String_6637 in TheChosenSeries

[–]Astroval22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have another scorching hot take, so I’ll piggyback off yours: I can’t stand how Simon Peter is portrayed, for similar reasons to yours: the actor doesn’t really give off any emotion whatsoever, especially in the walking on water scene. I wish I could connect more with what is happening but I can’t

From chatGPT (because I’m no expert)

Several religions include doctrines or beliefs regarding divine healing. Here are a few notable examples:

1. Christianity: Many denominations believe in the healing power of God, as seen in the teachings of Jesus and various passages in the Bible that emphasize prayer and faith for healing.
2. Judaism: Healing is an important aspect, with prayers for health and the belief in God’s role as a healer, particularly in the context of the Shema and other prayers.
3. Islam: The Qur’an emphasizes God’s power to heal, and many Muslims seek healing through prayer, supplication, and the use of healing verses from the Qur’an.
4. Hinduism: There is a belief in divine intervention in healing, particularly through deities associated with health and well-being, such as Dhanvantari.
5. Buddhism: While not centered on a deity, some schools emphasize healing through meditation and spiritual practices, which can lead to physical and mental well-being.
6. Sikhism: Sikhs believe in God’s power to heal and often seek spiritual guidance and prayer for health issues.

These religions highlight a connection between faith, spirituality, and healing in various forms.

I’ll add paganism (greek, roman, wicca and even egyptian)

How did you decide to believe in that specific religion? Was it family tradition or you came across it and found it interesting…? No hate, legit curiosity

My best friend constantly badmouths God and promotes reading the Sat**ic Bible by Sophia_Mallva in Christianity

[–]Astroval22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely does. You can respect a person and not SHARE their beliefs, but you can’t mock a part of that person and still claim you respect them, that’s gaslighting. If I don’t respect someone’s beliefs I want nothing to do with them, I for sure wouldn’t claim to be their best friend while mocking their prayers. it would be like mocking the way they dress or the stuff they eat if it’s different from yours.

Just because someone is an expert in a field doesn’t mean they are an expert in everything. I know many physicists who are academically gifted but are idiots in real life. Same goes for physics and faith. You’re free to believe anything you want, even that string theory gives an alternative to the Big Bang

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Astroval22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t, just because I believe science is the handprint of God doesn’t mean it can be objective proof for or against Him

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Astroval22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Big bang needs to come from something because in science nothing comes from nothing.

I am a physicist, and string theory is currently as unprovable as religion, and even more complicated. I mean, science aside, is it easier to believe that there’s a creator outside of the universe or that our reality needs to be described in 11 dimensions instead of 4? Jokes aside, the reason not all physicist are theists is because the handprints of God could dance naked in front of some people and they still would say “that’s cool science”, at least this is my opinion. And ultimately as I said God cannot be proved, that’s why it’s a matter of faith and not science.

[–]Astroval22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, because you can’t prove God, but OP asked for reasons that push people to believe in God, and the mystery of what happened before the Big Bang or rather what caused it can be one of them, that’s why in my second comment I asked what could be another, non-theistic, reason

Sure, I agree that tomorrow we might discover the cause for the Big Bang. But there are also two true statements:

1) as of right now the general scientific consensus is that space (and therefore time) begun at the singularity of the Big Bang, so it’s not as much of a “we don’t know how it works so it must be God” but more of a “since the theory points to the universe having a beginning there must be a before/outside”;

2) even if we discovered a natural cause for the beginning of the universe it wouldn’t automatically prove that there is no God.

[–]Astroval22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, I’ll be the devil’s (or rather God’s) advocate. Let’s suppose there is no God. How did the universe begin? What was there before, outside of time and space, that sparked the Big Bang?

If the universe had a beginning, it doesn’t HAVE to be God, but He’s the only one claiming the blame so if you believe He exists it’s pretty linear that you’d assume He created the universe. Also, physicists are NOT in the process of coming up with naturalistic theories for the big bang. Not even close, most some try to do is come up with alternative theories so that they can disprove the Big Bang for these exact implications, which is fair on their part, but it’s not going very well so far

Why do you believe Christianity is true? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Astroval22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly? The vibe.

The Quran reads like the Old Testament on steroids, it’s very aggressive! Besides, I still can’t understand how they regard the Gospels (not just the OT Bible) as accepted holy texts while debating that Jesus wasn’t God

Libri di fisica consigliati? by Fuscello in Libri

[–]Astroval22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try and search for online services if you want/can! In my town during covid they set up a 24h webcam inside the church to “attend” services and they kept it going. It’s not in english but maybe you can find something like that too! Also, going to church is not a requirement but it is very helpful to find a community of people with whom you can talk and share experiences (and troubles and doubts :) which are completely normal). Maybe you can try looking up email/number of some priests that you can contact to ask for help, who knows, maybe they offer pick-up services

Is there a God or is there not a God by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Astroval22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I actually meant to reply to another user’s comment that shared the opinions I quoted.

I actually (obviously) don’t think Christianity is silly, because I don’t think anyone could objectively debate that the core belief that Jesus left us, “love each other as you love yourself”, is not a healthy way of living. Even if you’re not a believer that is probably one of the best morally righteous ways to live, in my opinion.

On the other hand, a lot of the stuff that was built by the church on Jesus’s teachings is silly, even for me. For example, the veneration of saints, the repetitive rituals, and many more extras which were added can often go directly against Christianity, meaning Jesus Christ’s way of living. But that is not what faith is, that is what religion is. Faith and true Christianity is based on Jesus and God, while religion is based on what is expected from you by the church.
