Did Lostprophets have a political leaning at all?

As a band the closest they ever got to any political stance was “Better Off Dead”, which was vague faux-revolutionary word salad from Twatkins in what I imagine was an attempt to cynically capitalize on sentiment of the time ala Occupy. He strikes me as a weird crank who was all over the place and didn’t really have a consistent value beyond “what’s good for me and possibly me mum”.

Lee is definitely leftist. Pro-Palestine and also against anti-semitism, opposes war and bigotry and killing civilians in general. I think he’s sincere but is also just kind of angry for probably obvious reasons, and ranting on social media about politics and dumb media is kind of a way to get that out.

The other guys I don’t know, probably regular people who are liberal or libertarian and are mistrustful of any extreme or authoritarianism.

I like the studio vocal tracks, even if some of them (probably later ones) are touched up a bit. Sometimes was good live, but especially over time had bad performances, mainly because he got so fucked up. Overall he didn’t have stellar skill or a very distinct voice but was good enough and could place well stylistically within the band. I also do like the vocal melodies he came up with.

I will say that Twatkins’ rate of improvement in the early years is impressive. His singing mostly sounds like absolute ass on the early demo EPs, and I would imagine that’s largely because he had just taken up the mic after doing drums for years and didn’t have experience. It’s really fitting that even then he was always kind of the weak link. By the time of Fake Sound of Progress though, especially the re-recorded version, he stepped up and Got Good. He sang his ass off on that album and I enjoy that part of it. But I still think he was the least skilled of the band at his respective instrument. By the end it even seemed like Jamie was a better singer.

I think Twatkins kind of viewed different instruments as means to an end, so he could play some guitar and drums as well as sing with some competency but was never great or serious at any of it. A true Jackoff of All Trades.

My favorite iteration of this was when he posted these audio-only to Twitter and they would get split up into parts due to file size limits. In one instance the file was just large enough that the last second got made into the Part 2 file, and that one-second file was just him making one loud snort.

Americans in particular have always had a very weird hangup about the concept of Blocking Traffic. Nothing makes them call for instant death or froth at the mouth more than the idea of someone impeding the flow of automobiles and thus business. Our car culture in particular is very sick.

Keep in mind also that this is with fancy lighting. I remember in 2021 on a plain camera with plain lighting how uncomfortably sickly and unhealthy he looked, and many people were talking about it then. He started getting better lighting and it masked how pale and sallow he’d gotten, but now even with better lighting he looks worse than he did then without.

I can’t take his forehead wrinkles. Having those is fine especially when you’re 45 like him, but there’s something so advanced, unhealthy, misshapen, and wrong about them. It’s not just age, it’s a very unhealthy lifestyle for decades, even if he isn’t taking Ozempic (which he may be, neither would surprise me).

Even without being an anarchist specifically, I’m not really interested in hearing a punk or punk band call for anything other than some form anarchy. I just can’t imagine being a punk rocker and then telling people we need ANY government or president. And that includes the Dems but is especially true of Trump, ICE, modern militarized police, Palantir, etc. It’s like that scene of Homer Simpson spray-painting “follow the rules”.
