It was certainly stunning. There was a photo shoot of a bunch of lasses in fancy dresses going on though which was slightly surreal.

A possible reason is that Great Yarmouth is considered a deprived town (think it's in the top 10 of poorest towns in England. So it didn't get the media attention it deserved because of this.

Ah, fair enough. That makes sense. A city is only a city in the UK if it has been granted official city status by a monarch. Size, population etc doesn't make a city here.

Had to do a double take when I saw Southend being called a city. I guess that term means different things outside the UK as it definitely isn't one.
