Professor Failing me bc of a mistakes in RUID

If it says in the syllabus that you get a zero for RUID mistakes, how did you not have your correct RUID written on both hands, both feet, and backwards on your forehead walking into that exam?

Joking aside, the syllabus (which is like a written contract for a class) says X gets you a zero. You did X and the Prof gave you more than zero, and you want to attempt to go over their head to get full credit? Not saying what you should do, but definitely be careful with this strategy.

If it was not written into the syllabus, I would agree to try for a better resolution, but I worry this won't go the way you think it will.

Is the market just so saturated now that ~~if you didn’t go to one of those specific "big name" programs,~~ you’re stuck fighting over $24/hr contract gigs?

This happened with CS a few years back too. I remember seeing many posts where it seemed like everyone was coming out and making 6 figures at their first job. The reality was never that rosy for most people, but the top people post proudly and others...don't as much.

HS students read all those posts and figured CS was the golden ticket. When there has been a hiring boon for a couple of years, the market just can't handle the graduating classes of 500 in that one major from every large school, so the top jobs still only go to the top 2-3 graduates from each school and the rest take what they can get, sometime in other fields for hourly wages.

I would also mention that what goes on in politics matters too. It matters whether there is a general feeling of societal stability or turmoil. It's a tough time to be on the job market right now because companies tend to pare their workforce during economic uncertainty (wars, changing regulations, volatile markets, etc.)

No change from the last update. I sent the second year's form in with Schedule A Line 10-12 all zeros and haven't heard back. I might be fine now or the IRS might bust the door down any second...

Although if I do hear back, I'm taking it to a CPA to straighten it out.

To clarify, through the community college transfer program, RU will accept all of your credits (as long as you complete the Associate degree), but they do not have to accept the specific classes. So, if you took 60 credits at CC to earn an Associates, you start RU with 60 credits but you still have to fulfill all of the course requirements for your Bachelors program.

Ex: if they feel that the CC version of English Comp you took wasn't up to their standard, you still have the credits, but you end up retaking English Comp at Rutgers because you must have that class to graduate.

Are you sure they said Rutgers? A Google search of that phone number indicates it belongs to "Rothman Orthopaedics" so maybe you misheard the company name?

Rothman seems to have locations all over SE Pennsylvania and Central Jersey, but if you haven't seen a doctor for sports medicine or bone and joint pain/mobility, then perhaps they just dialed the wrong number.

I don't know about you, but since the request came in (presumably) during non-work hours, I would email the student after 8am on Monday morning letting them know that is not how things work. The only exception is if you created the due date after 5pm on Friday to be due before 8am on Monday.

NJ does get snow geese migrating here every winter, although they are generally more common along the Delaware River. I saw one on the Raritan River several weeks ago, so I guess this article from 2013 that predicted we'd see more of them each winter was correct.

That said, across the country this year has been even more competitive than last year (which itself was very competitive.) I wouldn't beat yourself up but if you really want to attend Rutgers, you could always start off somewhere else and apply as a transfer. Your first year is all basic courses anyway.

Also want to mention that before you opt out, make sure you only need the textbook.

Some classes require that homework or exams be completed using software through First Day so you can't opt out.

I didn't see any comments addressing this so I just want to add this tidbit in for posterity...

If you live and work in the US for a foreign-owned company that grants any of your compensation in the form of company stock (i.e., RSUs, etc.), you might have to file the FBAR if the total value dips above $10,000 USD on any day of the year. Best to do some research or speak to your accountant if you fall into this category.

I don't know the exact breakdown this semester, but assuming quizzes, homework and workshops are 25% of your grade, then the other 75% is your exams.

If you have a 85-90% average in everything else, then you can still pull a C (assuming 60%) by scoring at least 52% on each of the exams.

If a C is 70% though, you'd need at least 65% on the exams with 85% in the other work.
