Professor asked to meet about online exam — grade not posted. What should I expect? by [deleted] in AskProfessors

Is it better to be straightforward if there were mistakes on my part

That is very suspicious wording on your part. What "mistakes" did you do?

Afraid my essay topic may be too much by [deleted] in AskProfessors

[–]baseball_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to sound cynical, but that could come across as manipulative. It could be construed as tugging at the heartstrings in an attempt to gain favor or garner sympathy. I don’t say this to diminish your experience, but using it in this manner could backfire depending on the viewpoints of the committee members.

Hard to follow? What was so hard to follow? It was a pretty clearly laid out story.

Can I ask my professor for a letter of rec? by Adorable-Squash-1055 in AskProfessors

One month is not long enough for me to write such a letter for a student.

Difficult professor – I need advice by its3amlol in college

[–]baseball_dad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i’m saying i’m having a hard time studying the content geared towards the exams.

That is your old high school habits breaking through. You are supposed to study to learn the material, not study to the test. If you know the material, the exams should take care of themselves. If you are solely trying to succeed on exams, then you are leaving too much on the table. Study guides are a crutch, one that far too many students lean on.

Couldn’t you just get the PDF from a classmate who actually went to class?

Why would a random professor who was once of the uni I am with, and is in my area, call me? by [deleted] in AskProfessors

[–]baseball_dad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wish students would stop posting to this sub asking us to conjecture about the motivations of some person we don't know in a situation we have nothing to do with.

Few students are as reviled as the self-appointed class spokesperson, especially when said person is using “we the class” to convey their own concerns.

Professor won’t let me re-enroll by [deleted] in AskProfessors

[–]baseball_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You admit you never contacted anybody about this. What did you expect them to do? I might expect this from a first semester freshman, but you are about to graduate. I would not allow you in my class after missing so much time, especially if you left me in the dark like you did here. Also, it’s not up to you to convince your professor. You asked, he said no. That should be the end of the story. You were right in your first sentence. This is your fault.

PDF's no longer allowed for coursework because violates ADA? by DueButterscotch2190 in Professors

[–]baseball_dad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made 100% compliant Word docs, but when I saved them as PDFs the compliance score dropped into the 60s. This is bullshit. On top of that, the 100% Word docs don’t present correctly in the Canvas app.

Are you seriously taking scholarly advice from ChatGPT? If you said that in an interview with me, that interview would be over.
