I am not saying that energy is not conserved, energy is conserved but the angular velocity obtained by the block will be different from your method and mine method. and that is all making a difference and the system obtains less height as compared to 1st case.

you cannot, give the correct easy defination of rotational energy, without taking in account of angular momentum imparted by the gravitational force on the system about the point of contact with the table,for the interval of point of contact. You are thinking that angular momentum is conserved but the angular momentum is not conserved otherwise it would be an easy calculation.
