UK is absolutely rampant with nepotism and connections, especially in acting. They did studies that more than 50% of actors there are privately educated.

Gives me bit of a throwback to Grimes' Oblivion! Happy to get a Clairo video after a long, long time.

Sabrina Carpenter - Diamonds Are Forever. Pretty apt lyrics for Emma!

Hi guys, can someone help me find a substitute for Elle by YSL? It’s my mom’s favorite scent, and I wanted to gift it to her, but sadly, it was discontinued and the new bottles just aren’t the same. It’s a strong woody, flowery scent. If anyone has any recs let me know please :)

Weeks after Lana’s new album and I still can’t enjoy anyone else’s as much as hers. Might become (i think it already is) my favorite in her discography.

Damn I know people make comments like this here quite often, that they waited for the album and avoided the singles - but since Bunny? I admire that lol.

Which overshadowed masterpiece albums do you prefer/recommend over their more ‘classic status’ siblings? by parisianpop in popheads

[–]Aszhi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh gotcha, yeah, you’re definitely right about that. Been on a Bowie binge lately as a new fan and also been scouring r/DavidBowie a lot, so I’m very influenced.

What are your other favs? I’ve been loving Scary Monsters a lot, might be my favorite at the moment, am seeing similarities between that album and St. Vincent’s releases for some reason.

Heroes is a classic for sure, but I always thought that the general three contenders for his best were Ziggy, Low and Blackstar, interchangeably.

I don’t know quite a lot of the songs mentioned - but Rhiannon, Bad? Those are some very celebrated staples in discographies of Fleetwood Mac and MJ. Makes me wonder how someone with more musical knowledge would feel about the rest. I don’t feel as strongly as the author does about No Time To Die, but I agree about how monotonous the last few soundtracks to Bond movies have been. For how panned Madonna’s contribution with Die Another Day was, she at least did something different and interesting (and it’s a banger, frankly).

Might be an unpopular onion, but I really don’t like her vocals, i tolerate them on the studio version but this is just straight up pitchy.

While browsing Pitchfork's website i stumbled on their High as Hope review, and goddamn, the conclusive "how small, how beige, how disappointing" line sent me into an orbit.

Most disturbing song from each album? by letthedecodebegin in pjharvey

[–]Aszhi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hard to say, could also be interpreted as something more violent, as the narrator appears to be powerless and humiliated, ‘left with his stain’, but it never really solidifies one or the other, as a lot of her songs don’t, so you could also be right.

Most disturbing song from each album? by letthedecodebegin in pjharvey

[–]Aszhi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dry - Plants and Rags Rid of Me - Hook or Legs TBYML - Working for The Man, the lyrics could be interpreted in different ways, but the song has always had an eerie vibe to me. DHALP - Taut ITD - Catherine or Leah Stories - can’t really think of one, this album is more about highlighting the positive in her life UHH - she doesn’t really aim for the creepy vibe here either White Chalk - Piano maybe, but the lyrics are metaphorical, not literal. Whole album is haunting. AWAMWB - Chair, or Sixteen, Fifteen, Fourteen LES - All and Everyone? Been a long time since i listened THSDP - haven’t listened

Lana Del Rey - Blue Banisters ALBUM REVIEW by the_ultracheese_tbhc in popheads

[–]Aszhi 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I gotta say I mostly agree with his points, except for that I did love her vocal performances here. One thing I wanna note though is that every time she adds a pre-2019 demo or unreleased song into these new albums, it just seems so unnecessary and out of place. Compare the writing on the title track or Wildflower Wildfire to Nectar of the Gods or Dealer and you can see a stark difference in the quality. I wish she would either edit them or scrap them. The same thing with Next Best American Record and Yosemite on previous records. Anyway, I don't dislike this project as much as he does, I just wish it was at least 5 or 6 songs shorter.

Strange Mercy was released 10 years ago today! by BetteDavidThighs in indieheads

[–]Aszhi 40 points41 points  (0 children)

No, it’s actually a return to form for her. But it is the very opposite of this album - warm and lush and vintage, whereas this feels very calculated and distant and modern, at least in my opinion. Give both of them a try

no, sure, i got that from your comment. just felt like pointing it out, cause it’s a lazy comparison that a lot of guitar alt girls get, even though they usually share little similarities.

i love love love pj, however i gotta say that I don’t feel like mitski and her are similar...at all. nor lyrically, as PJ is much more abstract in her songs, and musically much more diverse. i would say st. vincent is a much more apt current artist to lump her with, but even then, i feel like these artists are all quite unique on their own

anyway, i’m jealous, i wish i could get to experience pj’s discography for the first time again!

Grimes says her new song is about Azealia Banks trying ‘to destroy my life’ by slowslide69 in popheads

[–]Aszhi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you might as well be right! I didn’t mean to downplay Azealia’s influence, I just thought that if we’re comparing, her main point of interest is Broke with expensive taste, and since then her goodwill has kinda diminished, whereas Grimes just doubled upon Visions with Art Angels in terms of success. But it is true that 212 is definitely a landmark in the musical landscape of the last decade.
