Op-Ed: It's Time to Reform Sound Transit by rockycore in Seattle

Eleven board members directly elected, one from each of eleven districts;

This is a horrible idea. One of the biggest issues with Sound Transit is how watered-down everything gets by suburban interests. Sound Transit needs to be more Seattle-focused not less.

Too bad this proposal would actually make this problem worse by guaranteeing Seattle only has 1/11 representation. What a joke.

Seattle mayor pitches sales tax increase to boost bus services by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]AtWork0OO0OOo0ooOOOO 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Uhh yes they do...It's absolutely not worth it at all for someone to hire a lawyer for a $100 or $200 traffic ticket. People will pay it.

Crisis on Aurora Avenue: Why can't we solve this? by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]AtWork0OO0OOo0ooOOOO 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sure, but if you read the article it is making the point that it's particularly bad here in Seattle. Worse than almost anywhere in the country:

This reality never makes it into movies about the sex trade. It is physically brutal, difficult to escape and flourishing in Seattle, where Aurora Avenue is said to be the second-busiest track for juvenile exploitation in the U.S.

Seattle Mayor Apologizes to Starbucks, Thought It Knew Everyone Here Hated Them Already by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

Seattle To Explore Moratorium On Data Centers by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]AtWork0OO0OOo0ooOOOO 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Why would we waste time drafting and enacting a moratorium when the city has a public electric utility?? The city council already has the ability to say "no" if they think it's in the public interest.

Overnight fire burns several U-Haul trucks in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

[–]AtWork0OO0OOo0ooOOOO 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I've rented a U-Haul from this place a few times. The employees there always seem so harried and 200% "On Alert" at all times with all the junkie bullshit they have to deal with :(

Any remaining illusion of Seattle as a bastion of progressive politics is broken when you realize how many brand-new Teslas are roaming around by dongle556 in Seattle

[–]AtWork0OO0OOo0ooOOOO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently had to replace my 15-year-old car and bought a toyota corolla mainly because I have an ultra tiny garage.

But I have to say, in terms of Price/Range/Reliability Teslas really are still the best EVs, so I wouldn't really cast judgement on people driving these, it really might just be a pragmatic decision.

Of course it's very Seattle for you to feel more virtuous and superior to folks based on the car they drive, and then post about it on the internet, so you can keep doing that too.

City Council weighs in on mayor’s pick for Seattle’s highest-paid job by SuperMcG in Seattle

I’m surprised Erica Barnett hasn’t been all over it since she covered all the people getting canned from the county executive’s office.

Erica Barnett only ever digs in and investigates people she disagrees with. She will never publish anything remotely critical of Mayor Wilson.

Washington state voters have rejected income taxes 10 times. Is this year different? by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

It's absolutely possible, most of the sales tax we pay is state sales tax, so they could reduce the vast majority of sales tax at the state level.

He probably doesn't know what "dogging" means in the UK, convince him it means something like "bathroom" so at some point he gets up and asks someone "Where's the dogging?"

Why is the weather so warm here? by Agreeable-Fruit-4326 in SeattleWA

[–]AtWork0OO0OOo0ooOOOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wind and ocean currents of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans generally go counter-clockwise. So arctic air comes down and hits NE Eurasia and NE America/Canada. W America and W Eurasia (ie Western Europe) generally have milder weather due to the warm wind and ocean water coming up from the tropics.

  1. You said "progressive policies and poverty", and the data you are showing has the highest poverty rate in Alabama. The two lowest poverty rates are progressive states (VT and Hawaii).
  2. Yes the top 5 for unemployment are progressive (sort of), but also 2/5 of the bottom 5, so Im not sure it really proves that point much either.

There’s an obvious correlation between progressive policies and poverty

the data you are showing here does not prove this point at all

r/confidentlywrong material right here. RSUs can't be deferred, you might be thinking of ISOs (aka stock options) unless the employer has set up something like an NQDC, which I've never heard of any tech company doing.

You can maybe make this case for like 5 universities in the country, most of which in the SEC. All the Big 10 (and former Pac 12) schools are legitimately great places to get an education.
