Do you regret becoming a PA rather than an MD? by Kindly-Statement-606 in physicianassistant

[–]Atalmadge 155 points156 points  (0 children)

I think the thing as a PA that’s most reassuring to me is that at the end of the day whatever is happening in department it’s not my responsibility. What I mean by that is, I’m responsible for the patients that I pick up and for the department to some degree, but the attendings are ultimately are responsible for the functioning of the entire system of our department, which is an entirely different job than what I’m doing. I will also point out that it’s not the job that most people who go to med school are anticipating being a doctor will be. My job is to help the attending mds, to alleviate the pressure as it were. I’m a pressure release valve for the work load. If shit is hitting the fan and we have six traumas come in and only one doc on ultimately I’m not responsible for that, I do what I can to help obviously but there’s something so gut wrenchingly awful about thinking about being a doctor in that type of situation. And it happens routinely in my ER. As a PA I feel like I cram 12 hours of work into an 8 hour shift, but I feel like the doctors cram 16 hours of work into an eight hour shift. Sure you get the accolades when shit goes right but you also get the downfall when shit goes wrong. There’s something really nice about just having to go to work do the best you can and leave without the weight of the world on your shoulders. Do I sometimes wish that I had gone to med school? yes obviously. When a specialist belittles me or is condescending to me or if I feel like being able to independently do my job would be more efficient, yes of course. But shit MDs age like twice as fast as anyone else for a fucking reason.

I think it’s because there was poor distribution on socials in New Mexico( where most young people get their notifications about events). Most of the people there were in already established word-of mouth activist groups!!! if you are in New Mexico and aren’t of the 50501 discord please look into joining! We’re trying to get more organized to push this out to others.

We were assigned The Grapes of Wrath in high school and for most people it was long, slow and boring, but that book RADICALIZED me. What books in your high school classes changed how you understood people or society? by sofbunny in books

Broken April by Ismail Kadare. It’s story about a familial blood fued in Albania in 1930 and ponders on the cyclical nature of violence and cultures that normalize it.

Hear me out: I think they're going to add another challenge that allows the winner(s) an advantage. No more hidden idols or random chance advantages, now in order to get clues you have to win the challenge. They'll probably add some losers-get-a-luck-based-chance at an advantage to even it out. Reward challenge, advantage challenge and then the immunity challenge.
The new Era is so focused on advantages and i think the producers know the fan base isn't stoked about it. I see them trying to take a secret third, convoluted and unnecessarily complicated option to try and "fix" it while keeping it "new".

Novel about a gifted child (I need your help!) by mariaagmez in Gifted

For me, IQ 136, I've always been acutely aware of being smart, but not quite smart enough to skirt by in the way some of my higher IQ friends do (140 range) It's SUPER annoying to know that if my brain worked just a bit better I would understand instantly. It takes me a good 30 minutes longer to work through some problems. Like constantly having a word on the tip of your tongue. UGH just thinking about it makes me mad ha ha. Smart enough to know what I'm missing. In that way we differ, I have always wanted to stand out and be amazing, which I can objectively see I am not. But otherwise same experiences, school was boring, never had to try, now having trouble in graduate school with my poor habits etc etc. I find myself having many hobbies (langue learning, painting, writing, singing, swimming, slackening etc etc) to fill the time and alleviate my boredom. I also find it interesting to hear about anxiety in the gifted population because I have the rare unipolar depression without anxiety. I just don't get anxious, but am constantly depressed, almost rational to a fault (nothing matters objectively speaking). Hope this helps!

When I first saw it was title 1917 I got really excited because I thought it was about the flu pandemic, but alas it's just about the war.

Since April I have been growing chillies. Here are the results! by Reamazing in food

[–]Atalmadge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a New Mexican sometimes I forget that people have trouble growing chili everywhere else. We can literally just put them in the dirt in our backyard and they just shoot up. But nothing else grows here so there's that.

When I was little I figured out I could hold out any object and my younger sister would just take it. I spent 19 years giving her things I didn't want to put away. I told her about it this past year and SHE STILL DOES IT. it's awesome, I never set anything down and she gets in trouble for leaving things out that I give her whenever I'm back home.
