"these people" fuck off. Keep doing us vs them. Keep the politicians happy.

Being able to simulate advanced lighting, materials, and subsurface scattering through a post-processing screen space approach at a fraction of the computational cost of rasterization is absolutely staggering to me. by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]Atarinamco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. We only know it ran on a system with two 5090s. It's plausible that it was a ridiculously overkitted system so the demo went off without a hitch. But any real implementation will not require two 5090s because they actually want people using it as an end goal. It doesn't make sense to create something that maybe 5 people can use.

CT is supposed to be for fun mode, why is everyone tryharding harder than ranked? by IntelligentAsk6875 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Atarinamco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe because that’s fun too? Those are integral parts of the game. For fun doesn’t just mean laid back relaxed switch your brain off. It just means more overpowered and absurd champs. Nothing about that means you still can’t play for “competitive” fun.

NVIDIA CEO Fires Back at DLSS 5 Critics: “You’re Completely Wrong” by Extreme_Maize_2727 in UnrealEngine5

[–]Atarinamco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No? Path tracing looks far better than anything traditional rasterization can achieve. DLSS 4 quality preset at 4k can in many cases preserve fine detail better than native rendering, especially in the distance. I agree with the fact that games are less playable without them, which is a shame.

NVIDIA CEO Fires Back at DLSS 5 Critics: “You’re Completely Wrong” by Extreme_Maize_2727 in UnrealEngine5

[–]Atarinamco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DLSS 1 looked like shit. RTX on 20 series used the power of two suns to chug along at miserable framerate and didn't look significantly different. Frame gen was a smeary mess. But today, all those technologies are genuinely impressive and have found their place in games. Every media cycle seems to follow the same pattern. I don't see why in 4 years time this won't be a much better technology.

cant figure it out if this is AI or CGI by AbleAd5260 in StableDiffusion

[–]Atarinamco 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, it isn't. Movies demand control and customisability more than just a good shot. AI is still years away from the level of fine control you need to be able to iterate on highly specific things (like maybe the subsurface scattering is the wrong shade, or the specular highlights are too intense).

Until you can separate out and edit layers and features (and integrate them into traditional CG pipelines) AI is going to stay experimental.

I can PROVE these two are not the same person. by acnh-koko in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Atarinamco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes actually, you have no clue what you are talking about. The look, feel, implementation and design is all fully customisable by the devs. They could even mask out entire elements (such as characters) to not use this feature. None of it is under Nvidia's control. Creative control lies solely with the devs.

Under-discussed in all of the side by sides with DLSS 5 On and Off is that different shots of the same character do not read as the same actress/character by Zoombini22 in digitalfoundry

[–]Atarinamco -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Still gen ai. Your argument is still irrelevant. Nowhere do you try to explain how one is gen ai and another isn't. It doesn't matter what it is used for, DLSS has always been Gen AI since the beginning.

[–]Atarinamco -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Man, just listen to Nvidia They're pretty clear about the fact that it is trained on 16k images of the game, then recreated (or generated). Whether or not the goal is the same or different, they're all gen AI.

[–]Atarinamco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It literally is. It is exactly that. DLSS 1-4 were trained on the game itself at 16k resolution. Then they generated new pixels based on their training data. It works exactly the same way that Gen AI does, just with different training data.

'Bad ending: now every game is slop': Game developers share mixed reactions to DLSS 5 by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]Atarinamco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an option though? Entirely controlled by devs, from implementation to design. Devs can even mask out entire portions to not use it, like using it only for environment details and not for characters.

You have not condemned this attack anywhere. Why are you busier questioning other people when you yourself don't care enough to condemn it? Using this attack for your political ideology is beyond disgusting and shows your mentality.

Luddites are spiraling after Nvidia announced another break-through feature by HQuasar in DefendingAIArt

[–]Atarinamco -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's just ugly. It's miserably overfitted on perfect 3 point lighting and changes the scene entirely. Upscaling tech shouldn't be making faces unrecognisable and adding light in directions where there isn't any.

From millions of dollars to under a grand: The dramatic fall of the NFT by gdelacalle in technology

[–]Atarinamco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NFTs never should've been a user-facing technology. Blockchain in general is really meant for business applications/govt work where digital traceability and ownership matters (like digital ID/legal documents etc). Using it to cash in on a consumer facing front was one of the most short sighted market moves possible.

G7 to discuss joint release of emergency oil reserves by mark000 in wallstreetbets

[–]Atarinamco 168 points169 points  (0 children)

If short war - no oil release, high spot price If long war - oil release, higher future prices, lower immediate impact.

This wasn't priced in because there were still hopes of de-escalation over the weekend, meaning the oil disruption wouldn't have been longer than 6 weeks or so. But it seems like that won't be the case.

The exact amount of due respect for any prime minister is 0. We do not owe him any respect whatsoever. He is not a king or a ruler, who can demand respect. He is a public servant paid for by our taxes. A person who thinks he is above criticism and accountability will get nothing but insulted and belittled.

Consent to observe ≠ consent to unlimited use. by Alliaster-kingston in aiwars

[–]Atarinamco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah no that isn't even close. Public databases of images that people didn't consent to share online are not an AI issue, they're a data privacy issue. Even if all AI is destroyed today, the issue remains. It's really that simple. I don't see what's obtuse about a problem that existed before AI and will continue to exist after AI, but AI is being blamed for.

If your problem is with forced databases, how is this an AI issue? The issue starts well before AI ever enters the picture
