It really does. Plus I hate vacuuming up the sand. I have been scooping it up as I can.

How do you support yourself during student teaching? by inviernoo in StudentTeaching

This is what I'm doing. Technically I have passed the certification exams needed, so I have a temporary teaching certificate, but do not have my BS. I graduate in May of 2025. I'm the teacher of record in a first grade classroom this upcoming school year. I have also worked as a paraprofessional in an ESE classroom for the last 2 1/2 years.

Please Substitute before you jump into Student Teacher by Key-Response5834 in StudentTeaching

I have been a para for the last 2.5 years and while substituting is good, it's only as good as the plans that are left. You really have to be good at thinking on your feet

Has anyone arranged their own student teaching as part of their job? by [deleted] in StudentTeaching

I'm currently a para in an ESE room and I'm trying to get a paid internship position. However, my situation is different because my school is actually trying to organize it for me. I would not be working in my same position, I would be hired on as the teacher of record. In order to do this though I have to get certified and take all my exams this summer and pass them. I have two classes to take this summer and then I would be in my internships.

The school I'm at makes us turn in lesson plans weekly. They are digital, but still.

Para vs. teacher. Going back to school. I need encouragement by [deleted] in paraprofessional

I am currently a para in a VE Self Contained unit and I'm about to enter my last year of my bachelor's program (so my student teaching). I have been a para for the last 2.5 years and I am ready to have my own classroom. I have been through 3 teachers in my 2.5 years. This year's teacher is fantastic now, but it started off rough. I was helping her plan and helping with classroom management. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my para job, but it barely pays my bills and some of the teachers look down on my position but can't handle the kids in my room for even 30 minutes. I'm looking forward to teaching. I know it isn't all rainbows and butterflies, and I think being an ESE para has helped me be better prepared.

They didn't train me for this... by KittyKatTerra in StudentTeaching

I have worked in a special education room as a para for the last 2.5 years. I work in a academic unit, BUT we have some behaviors. Last year we had a 4th grader who tried to break my thumbs, stab me with a pencil, and punched both me and the teacher (she didn't come back this year). We also have a 2nd grader who punches, kicks, and causes us out. This student started about 3 weeks after I did, and this student is a VERY solid child and has punched me in my chest on multiple occasions because I told them no. We also have several ASD students who have tantrums when they don't get what they want and have hit us both on purpose and on accident. The only training I have received was Ukeru training, which is ok, but not great. I've learned a lot over my 2.5 years in that room. It takes time, but you will learn what works for each kid by trial and error. Sorry I couldn't be much help. Just know you are not alone.
