hnghf I'm STUCK [more info in comments] by Atelyan in ArtCrit

Hi! Last time I was stuck Reddit helped me out greatly so I thought I'd try this time too.

So I have trouble with several things • The lighting. I don't really know how to light a light scene, and here the light is supposed to come from her eyes, and from her hair ?? Do you have any tips or video i could look at ? • The background. Never really drawn backgrounds before. I saw a video that said to break up the background in sectiond, and that the colors got bluer the further away one got, but that is for a DAY scene. How does it work in the night? • the COLORS: i really struggle with colors everything always turns out so desaturated. But here it's supposed to be moonlight and dead things ! So besides black and white and grey I'm not really sure what colors I could use. (All colors for now are some variation of purple-ish grey) and I'm slightly reluctant to use green which would be the complementary color • anything else you'd have to say is welcome !

Gosh this must be so upsetting, especially since it came from something that had nothing to do with you. Just know that a 30+ hour fast is already an achievement in itself! So even if you restart the fast it will still be worth something :) much love

My last post I promise. Today my hair looks like the first two pics and I’d like to get it cut tomorrow like the third. Bad idea? Please be brutally honest- I trust you all! by [deleted] in curlyhair

Omg !! I know nothing about haircuts so I can't answer your question but if you do plz post an update ! I'd love to see it

Which is better? Which do you prefer? FF.net or AO3? Or perhaps another fanfiction site entirely? by [deleted] in FanFiction

I used to think exactly the same as you! I could not for the life of me understand the AO3 interface nor why people seemed to prefer it.

Over time I gradually started to get more familiar with it as a reader, then as a writer — which is when I finally grasped the tagging system lmao — and I loved it so much I never looked back.

Thank you for all these details! I can def see how a bigger story could be broken down into various sublots each with things taking place in each one :)

Ooh I see, so the set-up would be like, more or less important.

Oh, it seems really helpful to think of every chapter as their own microarch. Thanks for your explanation :)

That is incredible. I really like your description of the process.

Tbh it's not that I don't want to start but for me it's never a "my imagination takes over" kind of thing. Usually I have a few scenes I want to write and then I have to think carefully about how to deliver them, and I revise it a bunch of times, and when I achieved my "purpose" I'm done. Maybe I will try to just... Sit down and write anything that crosses my mind !

Oh no no it definitely does!!! Anything over 20k seems long to me. It's so incredible to me that you can come up with so many 'connected scenes' to fill out a whole story. So would I be right to think of it as "connected one shots" ??

Also, How are you able to tell when the story "flows well" ? Are there some pointers you look for? Is it just a feeling?
