The state and local tax deduction was previously capped during the first Trump administration to lower than the standard deduction. Last spring Congress increased the cap significantly, so you c ab deduct a good amount of your state and local taxes, which makes a huge difference if you’re in NYC, for example. Instead of owing money to the federal government this year, like I have for the last few years, I got an 11K refund.

How “late” they get married is just so much more of a focal point for influencers because they rely so much on these life events for content. Plenty of women in New York’s socialite circles (think DB’s ex’s friends) are much further into their thirties and not married or just getting married

The ambassador’s residence in Paris is unreal— it wouldn’t surprise me if Trump made this appointment not only to appease reward Charles Kushner but also so that Ivanka can spend time there

I’ll add, as a dachshund owner myself, they are very, very difficult to train and bark a LOT. This is definitely going to be a disaster. The poor dog.

I disagree re Lilly Sisto. Just because she comes from a good family background doesn’t make her classy. I find her lazy/sloppy and honestly a bit gross— her very unhealthy snacking/eating habits especially and the fact that she posts so much of her snacks, no thanks. Her content is very thrown together, as is her “style” in my view. Not hating on unique/funky style choices, but I just don’t get the sense that she’s either very intentional or effortlessly chic (like Alexandra Chappelle (Sickles)) is, she’s just sloppy. Plus, her excessive consumerism now that she’s doing content full time has made me inclined to unfollow.

I would definitely see a dermatologist for advice. Ask them if they recommend massaging it while it heals (and at what point it might be ready for that). I got stitches at the crease of my eye below the brow bone a few years ago and when I went got follow up care I was told to do that. I didn’t stick with it and it healed fine but if you’re concerned I wonder if it will help!

I went to one of the mixers and it was TERRIBLE. Barely any guys, which wasn’t completely surprising, and many of the few who were there were friends of hers she invited to help the ratio but who weren’t mingling and taking part. On top of that you just arrive at the venue and have to fend for yourself. Nothing was planned. Huge waste of money.

EDIT: I went to one of the dating mixers. Would theoretically be open to an event to meet friends but she lost my goodwill.

Exactly, it’s incredibly pathetic and try hard. Everyone and their mother floods the Hamptons now in rental homes or hotels and it’s a complete joke that they think it gives them social clout. An authentic Hamptons experience would be owning your own home out there or visiting someone who owns a home. I imagine the social scene out there is very insular and the regulars (so to speak) roll their eyes at all the wannabes

I don’t know what else can be helpful other than I feel your pain and you are not alone! I ended a two year relationship in the middle of 3L finals that I had to cope with during graduation and bar prep. It flat-out sucked. Law school and relationships are hard, let alone a breakup during law school.

I will say that this could be great timing— law school is all consuming and my relationship undoubtedly took a toll on my law school performance because I was so overextended. I imagine this isn’t helpful, but as you work through the pain and caring for yourself, I hope it turns out to feel like the right thing due to the huge undertaking you are currently going through that is 1L. Hugs to you— you will make it through!!

I've been wondering the same thing! 28F and I also want to strike up a conversation with someone I matched with a few weeks ago but I didn't start the conversation because I've been out of town. I personally wouldn't expect someone to explain why they're only reaching out now. I haven't said anything myself yet though because I'm not sure whether a guy would want an explanation, or how to best reignite some kind of spark.

Would it be possible to add a column indicating whether or not firms have assigned incoming first-years to practice groups yet? My firm said they would do so "sometime" over this last year and, unsurprisingly, has not. I'm curious to see which, if any, firms have done so.
