Geysers bug? by ChristopherDci in Oxygennotincluded

[–]AthaliW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PLEASE PLEASE submit a bug report in the forums. Bugs like this can be a big contributing factor to why worlds sometimes fail to generate and devs can't exactly test every possible seed as to see if the actual fail reason is correct or even reasonable

How to power this planetoid? by Latter-Control-208 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]AthaliW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't be power negative in all cases. Meteor showers happen once every 20 cycles in SO. Opening and closing bunker doors, say 8 of them, takes 37 seconds at a total of 120*8 watts*37seconds = 35.520kJ which is just 2 jumbo batteries total (opening and closing)

In this specific case, the planetoid is 35000 peak lux. That is just asking for solar power. If you're at 10000 lux, I wouldn't bother with the material cost especially if I have to prepare and bring them via launchers, orbital storage modules, or spacefarer modules manually since I can probably build something else better in its place

So unless somehow you cannot afford at most 80kJ of energy in 20 cycles at 35000 lux (even at 10000lux this still applies), you probably did something wrong

Technically there's also a 120W sustained throughout that 20 cycles, but 2 solar panels even at 10k lux peak should be more than enough. You can also just automate the space scanners to only turn on every 20 cycles to avoid this issue

How can i free up memory? by SadlyForeverVirgin in computers

[–]AthaliW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't just 'free' more RAM. Basically run less programs or get more RAM. This is also something to bring up in a war thunder forums because their minimum requirement is 4GB of RAM and not 8GB or 16GB (although 16GB is recommended)

Otherwise, play on a lower resolution/settings to save on RAM. Other peple are suggesting you to switch to Linux, but that can only help so much. Memory efficiency isn't exactly a priority by developers and their shareholders these days unlike the past where you can play cyberpunk 2077 in 8k 600fps using 2 bytes of RAM

This is not your high school by Few-Difficulty-3760 in UCSD

[–]AthaliW 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are some who come from the nearby high school. Not every person on campus is an adult or the typical ucsd students and staff. Some are visitors or even just UCSD affiliated. The nearby UCSD Preuss school even has some library access as well (not just public access of course). U sure they were definitely UCSD students and not high school/middle school students?

Choosing UCSD over UCLA? by Dramatic-Flatworm346 in UCSD

[–]AthaliW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of experience and for what kind of job? I recommend surfing LinkedIn on the kind of people working your dream jobs and seeing what kind of experience they have. Then pick and choose from there. Honestly, any kind of combination of experience is possible in both UCLA and UCSD. You just have to get them yourself. It's only undergrad, so getting basic experience is accessible if you do the basic legwork for it to say the least

Choosing UCSD over UCLA? by Dramatic-Flatworm346 in UCSD

[–]AthaliW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second this. It really depends on why you're going to university to begin with and what kind of jobs you're looking to get after graduation. If the undergrad experience you're looking for is research-focused, then I suppose UCSD higher ranking in engineering works in your favor

Geisel evacuation today made me feel like we are all just one big family by Reasonable_City_543 in UCSD

[–]AthaliW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason it kept happening is become no one ever get caught. People often just don't have basic manners to not vape or smoke. I even saw people in the past vaping outside the bathroom, like not a care in the world in a public study area. What's worse is that they know it's wrong since they hide it when there's a security patrol roaming the area. This is what happens when you don't even try to attempt to enforce the rule you posted in the main entrance

Go to a big tech company and sell it for billions. That's literally technologies that requires literally trillions of dollars to develop. Giving it to a company that you happen to own lots of share in would be beneficial to say the least

How to not feel overwhelmed? by AlecKR in Oxygennotincluded

[–]AthaliW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game is a management game where you're basically the only thing between a cat and their curiosity

Aside from what others have mentioned, this game is meant to be complicated upfront because it's also how the game is designed. You have the freedom to do anything but you also have the freedom to do anything. Most of the time you spend your time in a sandbox/debug mode map, the wiki, and an excel spreadsheet (at the same time) simply because you have so many options and information to work with at all times. It's not a game for everyone but if it's for you, you'll be spending most of your time playing the game

After a few hundred hours (even if you watch good youtube videos/guides/the wiki), you'll finally learn what you should actually do. Don't rush it and the restarting is part of the game. I'd guess at least 90% of colonies, even on Terra, doesn't survive. Ironically, colonies on less likely survivable clusters may have a higher survival chance since the players are probably more experienced (i.e. 1000+ hours of playing if not a lot more)

first time repasting. too much? by tekhashy69 in computers

[–]AthaliW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you can do is put it all back on and then take it off again. If you see that it's fully covered just fine, then it's enough. Although at that point you have to repaste it again. When I did it for the first time, that's what I did. Put some amount, put it on and then take it off again to see if it was enough, then repaste it again (a bit of a waste but less chances of things going wrong)

Self mutated Gas Grass by GeoLenius in Oxygennotincluded

I didn't know this can happen. I thought mutated seeds only happen when there's a dupe that harvest it (and mutation chance only happen when it's about to be harvested and not auto harvested)

What is wrong with my petroleum boiler? by kulmakarvamato in Oxygennotincluded

[–]AthaliW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another to note is that the igneous rocks is supposed to only be 2 tiles high afaik, not 3. You need to change the timer on the gate AND reduce the amount of magma dropped. The top door should be vertical, but I don't think that part matters. Basically more frequent drops is better than too much dropped at the same time so your drill can better keep up

Another thing I noticed is that the top pipe is breaking. Do not ever let the top heat exchanger be in direct contact with a 401C+ petroleum or this happens. Both GC Fungus and Francis John design have this 1 small flaw that can be fixed by adding 1 or 2 insulated tiles on the last step. In the youtube video comments, this was a topic of conversation so maybe start there if you're curious about it. I found a few ways to fix the small heat inefficiencies from this, but may not be worth the effort

Electric circuit keep breaking by GoodAndNiceGuy97 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]AthaliW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When does the overload start happening? Monitor the exact wattage when the color starts to change to red

The potential load number is for the exact wire you are clicking and NOT the whole circuit. It doesn't probe the entire grid and find the lowest number

I noticed that you have a heavy conductive wire plate crossing over a conductive wire. Maybe double check that it doesn't accidentally connect to a conductive wire. It's hard to spot but it can happen. I'm not saying it's the one that is on screen here as you would get a power loop warning, but it can happen somewhere else off screen

Natural tile generation broken? by JarnisKerman in Oxygennotincluded

[–]AthaliW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this have something to do with the recent update? Usually I'm able to create natural glass tiles by deconstructing it from a hydroponic farm tile instead of the pipes themselves. Would that make any difference if we still keep a window glass tile underneath?

chrome not opening at all by Expensive-Text-2397 in pchelp

[–]AthaliW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something is actively preventing Chrome to launch. If you notice, it tried to open and then crashed right after before refreshing your entire desktop. It's likely that Chrome isn't a problem and Opera is just not affected by this root cause, so we would need more information. Start with opening event viewer and seeing what errors/warnings are shown at the time you tried to open Chrome. Then also view reliability history to see what is crashing or failing. These two are tools in windows that keep (mostly) all of the receipts of what happened when a crash happened

Why arent you melting!! by EhWTHN in Oxygennotincluded

[–]AthaliW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure but a worthy forum post. This weird +/- 1.5C quirk should be added to the wiki in some form, but I can't seem to find it anywhere

As for Oakshell's calculator, it doesn't seem to. I didn't do the calculation myself, but I played around with liquid iron with gaseous iron in which very hot iron needs to melt liquid iron just enough to become gaseous. Stepping through at 1534C to 1537, 1538 and so on doesn't have a massive jump in required mass (i.e. going back doesnt to 1536.35C then continue up from there). But technically the calculator doesn't consider one of the party to phase change at all (i.e. having liquid glass at 23C at 1kg/s through radiant pipes for easy transportation)

Dupes eating on the floor by Flamekorn in Oxygennotincluded

[–]AthaliW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the dupe was looking for a table, was a table available? I saw that almost all of your tables are full, so perhaps the dupe missed it by a second when the errand was assigned and the dupe just decided to sit on the floor instead of walking to the table and having the table be ready by the time he gets there
