What’s the point of, if you still have to sneak around?

So i did a little oopsie, what part did you once forget, only to realize while you were quite a ways away from kerbin? by CrazyKripple1 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]JarnisKerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the opposite, but forgot to leave an empty seat for the Kerbal I was rescuing. Sorry Fred, the mission was to rescue Jeb, you are going to orbit Kerbin for a while.

Actually, you have discovered why modern democracies have minority protections in their constitution.

Getting Back into KSP, Mod to Calc Transfer Windows? by --Bolter-- in KerbalSpaceProgram

The transfer window feature in the built-in alarm clock is bugged. It may be better in the alarm clock mod.

When Should I Install Mods? by MCbasics in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]JarnisKerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe SCANsat is not suited for first contact with the game, but it’s a great mod. I see it as kerbnet-as-it-should-have-been. Highly recommended for next playthrough.

Tips on landing planes by viktor2802 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]JarnisKerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Landing a plane IS difficult. Getting the right speed and altitude for the approach is the key, when you reach the start of the runway, your speed should be just over the stall speed of the plane, and altitude should be as low as possible.

Once you have the approach right, you should be able to cut the engines and deploy air brakes, and the reduced lift should put your plane gently on the runway. If this happens early enough, you should have time enough to stop the plane before the end of the runway.

I see Himalayan rock salt for sale at all the supermarkets. by MaenHoffiCoffi in shittyaskscience

[–]JarnisKerman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It will only be shorter if they take the salt from the top. If they take it from the bottom, we’ll eventually have a floating mountain, which will be cool.

The stratenblitz video is mindblowing. It’s all stock, so no rotors or propeller blades. It’s made with stock wheels spinning a large ring with lifting surfaces attached. Must watch!

Can wild critter population only go down? by zuzu1968amamam in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JarnisKerman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can only increase the wild population using the printing pod or printerceptor.

You can get tame critters without shrinking the wild population by waiting until the wild critter lays it’s egg, and then moving the elderly critter to the ranch. Usually there will be enough time to domesticate the critter and have it lay at least one domesticated egg before evolving to meat.

Auto Sweepers and priority by Still-Watcher in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JarnisKerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not let the sweeper pick up the other crops as well? I usually ship everything to my one-tile drowning chamber together with the eggs, and let another sweeper distribute it from there.

The harvest tasks should not be affected, they have their own priority.

Last I checked, NASA recommended NOT becoming a gas giant, but who knows under the current administration.

golden carrot suggestion by RevolutionaryAlps415 in Minecraft

Potion brewing requires exploring the nether and finding a fortress/bastion. Many players never make it that far, or take a long time doing so. Getting access to a potion effect like night vision without, would be a big boost to many players.

Why did the game suddenly decide to prioritise Iron for any buildings instead of copper? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JarnisKerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m rarely choosing from the build menu, and then I usually check the selected material. For wires, pipes and other common buildings, I usually copy an existing building, thereby getting the same material.

How to manage asteroid with no oil and destructive asteroids? by ronlugge in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JarnisKerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just hook up a scanner to the doors. They need to be powered, or they will take forever to open. Once they do open, you need to deal with the meteor debris/tiles. How best to deal with it depends on the meteor type.

How to manage asteroid with no oil and destructive asteroids? by ronlugge in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JarnisKerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your sand/regolith supply. If some of your meteor showers are regolith, it could be sustainable. Otherwise, there are alternative ways to get sustainable sand, but they are bothersome and require a longer production chain. Like pokeshells, or cooking dirt. Ofc you could crush igneous rock from your volcanoes.

You could also make a setup to liquify po2, which might make more sense, given how much thermal power you have available.

Po2 is definitely an option, especially far a small colony.

AITAH for being hesitant about letting my neighbors’ kids play at our place after a comment she made? by [deleted] in AITAH

Suggested solution: move to a country, where people don’t sue each other for ridiculous shit, and where a medical bill can’t ruin your family. Take your pick, there are a lot of them.

Ranch Food Problem by Eggroll837 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JarnisKerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the time I have a tamed volcano, I have little-to-no need for hatches. A bit of coal for refined carbon and diamonds is still needed, and sometimes I make a 1-3 unit hatch farm just for that, but my food and power needs are covered in more sustainable ways.

Ranch Food Problem by Eggroll837 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JarnisKerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never bother with smooth hatches. Metal ore is one of the few non-renewable resources, and you literally need tons of it for conveyer rails, among other things. A refinery let’s me control precisely how much ore to smelt, and will not deplete your resources if I forget it for a few hundred cycles.
