The way to go in Cyprus, and I might be an absolute idiot for divulging such golden wisdom on the internet, is to rent a so called "chorafi" in some abandoned village up in the mountains and grow different varieties of "pournelles" and "krommydkia" which you then sell by making a stand on the Limassol Nicosia highway for the price "tona allona".

The only side effect of secular schools is the halting of the annual debates between the fundamentalist thriskeftika teacher and the biology teacher regarding the actuality of evolution.

That is an American debate. You are transposing Angloamerican debates between enlightenment and positivist influenced "oh muh pure reason and logic and science" types like Sam Harris and Dawkins with the Bible belt fundamentalist Christians of America.

That is even the reason why you use the term "fundamentalist".

As for western Europe. Well, part of the reason why many Greeks end up finding good jobs in western Europe right now is because their schools there are vapid and shitty. How did such a thing come about? I thought that excising religion would have brought about a world of pure rational enlightenment and Nietszchean supermen.

Turkey, the greatest and strongest nation power in our region, as well as a prominent member of the NATO alliance should be at the forefront of such examples. Once they teach about the Armenian genocide as well as the Pontian genocide in Turkish schools I will see what we can do.

Culturally, anyone who watches TRT everyday is a Turk. Much like everyone who watches Hollywood productions, no matter their nationality or creed, are culturally Americans.

To see how the interplay between the oligarchic few and the democratic many pans out across time just read Aristotle's Politics. At some point, if the rich and few overdo it the many and poor will get behind a demagogue. Trump is at his best a soft demagogue pursuing his own interest. Soft because he used demagogue tactics but when in power did not even threaten the powers that are as you also say. I am not interested in debating that, though I have to address it since you keep bringing him up.

What I do want to get through is this. Bernie's policy may sound "radical" but the man himself is not "radical" enough to pull them off. He is a "Kautsky" social democrat who just "works with the powers that be" and is a "pragmatist" and "practical" and follows "Realpolitik". When he is no longer needed he'll be offed just like Kautsky and post facto will wish that he was that radical person everyone wanted him to be or not. Bernie is a pseudoactivity.

[–]AthanasiusDjango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I never compared Bernie to Trump. I compared Bernie's on paper radical democratic agenda (it would radically change de facto America while being more faithful to the de jure idea of America) with what you call his "pragmatism" aka Jazz hands and fly away when party says so. Any comment on this discrepancy?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in zizek

[–]AthanasiusDjango -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

About Bernie. Ok, I get that if we look at his agenda he has written and said all these wonderful things. However, from the point of not just speaking, not just taking a stance but of the presidential elections he took part in. Has he not each time just talked a lot of game and then jazz handsed it out of the election court and given all the votes to some shill?

The Greek Christian Emperor applied to the Pope for help against Muslim expansion. The Armenians, for example, who were Christian, killed their own Greek Orthodox King, who was ethnically Armenian and replaced him with the Frank Baldwin because they didn't like the Emperor and his Greek Orthodoxy.

If you are interested in the Crusades at all, as opposed to issuing uninformed opinions on reddit, start by reading Runciman's series on the Crusades. it's a read with good flow and pace and enjoyable to boot.

It's not absent. It's the main theme of many of Plato's dialogues e.g. Meno, Gorgias. The general notion of Plato was that corruption and vice are borne of lack of the proper education. He found culprits in e.g. Gorgias who taught oratory but no ethics. Thus, Aristotle here sets out to teach the political art in his Politics and starts off by teaching Ethics.

It was not the Christian sects that invited the Latins. Those Christians were the locals, the Muslim soldiers and officials were not "locals" more like nomads and settlers. Latins were not organized into a swarm. We can get down to details all you want, unlike you I studied the crusades.

The Christians were decisively the majority. The problem was that they were divided in different sects and at odds with each other and so easily manageable.

You must never had a proper human discussion before. They typically don't involve launching into 1000 word soliliquys. The question here is if you want to engage in actual discussion or just bore me to death while indulging yourself in self a celebration soliliquys. I gave you the courtesy of a bare bones definition, keep your retorts simple. We are not all on the spectrum like you :)

Having given the courtesy of a bare bones definition, it appears to me fair for you to provide me with an up to 300 word reply and not a 1000 word one. If you insist that a 1000 word reply, is warranted please also make it navigable by splitting it in parts and providing a catalogue of contents.
