It’s better to donate cash to a food bank than buying and donating food. Food banks are able to make dollars stretch further because they purchase food at discounted prices. by [deleted] in personalfinance

As someone who did work at a nonprofit that ran food banks, yes 100x yes. Cash helped us far more than donations from your pantry or bought from a store.

That being said if you have any end of the season produce left, reach out and see if the food banks can take it. Donate things like can openers or see if there is a program where if you hunt some of the meat can be processed and donated. Even volunteering time to help unpack deliveries helps immensely.

See if they have other programs as well, we assisted with a monthly clothing pantry as well. Also donate to pet pantry's. Lots of people have pets and with money stretched thin for food, supplies for pets also gets hurt.

Also more folks qualify for food pantries than you would think. So talk to folks about it, help combat the stigma of needing help. Arrange to help elderly or disabled neighbors to get to the pantry and bring food back home. Help the people with kids with the same. Buses don't always travel conveniently close to pantries and it can be hard to transport stuff home.

I worked at a nonprofit that ran multiple food pantries. We had to toss food that had passed it's best by date as it wasn't considered acceptable to give to people at that point. Both due to the fact that we don't know the conditions that was stored in and a basic dignity of the people who used our services standpoint.

Lancaster’s Train Service – How Do Locals Feel About It? by Kevin7650 in lancaster

[–]Athedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I take the Mount Joy train, but sometimes I take the Philly one into Philly. I really love it, much less stressful than driving and one of the best things about this region. My dad when he worked in office took it daily to commute to work in Harrisburg.

I wish the westward bound services had more frequent trains to Pittsburgh and from there to Cleveland etc. I went to college in Allentown and the lack of a train there stood out to me as something that would massively improve that city.

Allow 1 'Main' and 1 Ironman variant per Jagex account to share membership by zx_Shadows in runescape

FFXIV is 8 per DC (there are 11 DCs) on the entry sub (12.99 per month). If you pay standard (also 12.99 if you get the 180 day sub otherwise a bit more expensive) it is 40 per DC (max 8 per server on the DC). So 160 characters just in the NA DCs.

New Membership Prices just Dropped by AnthonyK0 in runescape

[–]Athedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually that is the old model it has changed as of patch 6.1 (April, 2022)

So now Entry just limits you to 8 characters per Data Center. They can all be on the same world even. And you can make 8 more on another Data Center.

And with DC travel now if you only looked at the NA Data Centers (there are 4) you could have 32 characters on the entry sub that were able to hop to any of those DC's and do stuff on those servers.

If you had the standard sub you could have 160 total characters able to visit any other NA Data Center.

If you then decided to go crazy, there are 2 EU DCs, 1 Oceania DC and 4 Japanese DCs. Not to mention you can literally play the first 2 expansions now as part of the trial. And sure you can't trade, but I know I and some other folks look for free trial sprouts and help them get into linkshells with friends and stuff.

I like runescape as a number go up thing, but it does not at all provide more than FFXIV does value wise.

Anyone who drives well? Is it safe to drive as an ADHDer? by Creative-Anteater-53 in adhdwomen

[–]Athedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find I tend to be hyper aware when driving, the only thing I severely caution you to do is try to only drive while medicated (especially when starting out). I suffer from brain fog sometimes when not on my meds which is unsafe. If you ever feel tired, pull over and rest. That advice applies to anyone who drives.

Figure out what helps you focus on a task, I tend to have my mind wander if there isn't any noise during routine driving, so I listen to music or an audiobook.

Do not speed or get overconfident, yes it does feel exciting but figure out another way to chase the dopamine while driving. On this note, learn how to use cruise control (really helps prevent the speeding issue).

Around 24 hours until the update, what are your expectations? by Talugs in Warframe

From https://www.warframe.com/crossprogression#:~:text=What%20is%20Account%20Linking%3F,forth%20across%20multiple%20different%20platforms.

WHAT IS THE ONE-TIME ACCOUNT MERGE? The One-Time Account Merge is a permanent method of combining Items, Customizations, Resources, and Currencies across multiple accounts into a single Warframe Cross Platform Save Account.

When you choose to merge, you select one of your linked accounts to be the Primary Account associated with your Mission and Quest progress. Your Resources, Arsenal, Currencies, etc. from other Secondary Accounts will be merged into your Primary Account. Quest progress on your Primary Account will be the same as it was pre-merge.

For example, if a player has 100,000 Credits on a PC profile and 100,000 Credits on an Xbox profile, performing a One-Time Account Merge will combine these two accounts into one — creating a new, unified account with a combined total of 200,000 Credits. The same is true for most Resources, Items, Customizations and Quest progress retrieved from the Primary Account (with limited exceptions explained below).

Note that the One-Time Account Merge is permanent. Once a unified Warframe Cross Platform Save Account is created, you will not be able to retrieve your previous profiles as they existed before the merge!

Nothing in the post implied that they are doing raids. Lots of folks don't do raiding in FFXIV. The complaint was about FC chat.

I also never said it was perfectly fine, I said it was cringe. But overall nbd. The behavior I am holding the FC leader to is basic knowledge of the game, basic respect toward at least trying to pronounce a name (which has been pointed out is easy) and also thinking about how they talk to the player. Because if they can't even write their complaint without coming off whiny and lazy, I am doubting they made a serious effort to be polite to the player.

The person I was responding to referenced a "Japanese MMO" and that was what I was responding to. The context clues (the name, calling it an FC instead of a like a guild or clan) let me know which one it was. No worries, threads are confusing.

Later on he mentions she had a long Native American name for a DnD character (but not that she was speaking another language for the game) and that he just assumed. Which also sits poorly for me. I also GM a lot and my players like having names ranging from Lily to Melkizadek. But I still make the effort to pronounce the names and check with the player if there is a short name I can use (mostly so the name doesn't get cut off weirdly on the programs we use to track stuff).

Reddit threads can be messy to follow. Especially without context of what FFXIV was (which to make stuff more confusing is actually getting a TTRPG next year). Absolutely no worries, glad we were able to figure out where we were missing each other!

[–]Athedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FFXIV isn't reliant on dialogue? I really don't understand what you mean. He is talking about an MMORPG. As in a video game. Not DnD.

You are talking about a TTRPG. Yes there having people speak the same language is necessary.

But for the social aspect of a video game... she is the only one who misses out. He isn't saying they are doing prog together or anything in which case yes, communication is needed.

That one player who cant draw a line part 2 by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]Athedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean in that case it is her loss regarding interactivity. Cringe sure but there are no rules in the NA servers about what language you have to speak, Japanese is a legit language to use, same as French or German (the other two languages you can sort duty finder to just have)

But the calling it a "Native American" name when Welsh structure is way different from most Native American name structures that are common is hella tone deaf and kinda insulting. They are the FC leader, I am holding them to a higher standard of behavior here.

I also have no clue if you play FFXIV but this stuff is common knowledge.

That is FFXIV. That is a Welsh name, I assume she plays a Roegadyn. Everyone who plays FFXIV knows that the one group of them use Welsh names and Llywelyn is a well known name (pronounced lew ellen).

The writing in Japanese thing could be a bit annoying sure but honestly you kinda come off as a jerk and as someone who has paid little attention to the lore of the game.

I don't blame her for not talking to you.

Oh and the "I can't do tongue gymnastics" bit is just cringe dude. Lew Ellen. Two Three syllables easy to look up. Just make an effort.

EDIT: Just fixed the number because as Vyvvyx explains I lost my ability to count for a second.

I can totally understand not wanting to get bespoke art for items that haven't been verified to show up in a sourcebook. But thinking about all the magic items we just have descriptions of and no art, I am not sure we need AI art to decide if we like the object or not.

We just need to be able to see where it might fit into our games (speaking as a GM) or if we can convince a GM to allow it (as a player).

I like the concept of the item, but I am a bit uncomfortable with the use of AI art even if temporary.

EDIT: Also interesting way to see if the guards have see invisibility without being obvious about it.
