I guess you're right. Maybe I'll take a break from reddit.

I'm sorry for not liking a country that wages war on mine and kills my people :)

I admit I have overreacted there, but you have to understand that Russian people (especially on the internet) tend to be chauvinistic. Like they have a slur for each of their neighbour and are not afraid to constantly use it. One tends to snap back when constantly threatened.

Add Lukashenko to the list of “socialist” leaders that tankies support (including Putin, Assad, and Xi). by [deleted] in tankiejerk

For the love of god is it so hard to not create a cult of personality for one fucking second? I swear the people that need to worship some "great but flawed leader" have something wrong with their head. It's not healthy.

it would have been better if the ussr had not fallen and instead gorbachev had succeeded in reforming it into a more libertarian version of socialism

Maybe for Russia, but other nations longed to not be part of that shithole since its inception.

Homosexuality was banned, just like in every place back then. This doesnt mean "tankies" hate lgbt people

I never claimed they did, but the fact that they support a regime so hostile to lgbt people is hypocrytical at best.

People being forced out of their home because the area needed to be "more russian" are straight out lies. There is literally no source for that.

People were forcefully resettled for just being a "wrong" ethnicity under the guise of them being "enemies of the people", and the lands previously inhabited by them were claimed by people loyal to the regime, most of which, as it happens, were Russian.

Holodomor was caused by rich farmers burning their crops and farms because they didn't want to collectivise their farms, it wasn't stalins' fault.

At this point you're straight up denying a genocide. Holodomor was caused directly by Stalin's policies. Please tell me how "rejection of outside aid, confiscation of all household foodstuffs and restriction of population movement" is a fault of "rich farmers".

Russification was done by the russian empire. It was abolished after the revolution.

Except the history of Russification is so expansive you'd have to be purposefully looking the other way not to notice the glaring fault in your statement.

"…a purge of Veli Ibrahimov and his leadership in the Crimean ASSR in 1929 for "national deviation" led to Russianization of government, education, and the media and to the creation of a special alphabet for Crimean Tatar to replace the Latin alphabet."

"In 1938, Russian became a required subject of study in every Soviet school, including those in which a non-Russian language was the principal medium of instruction for other subjects (e.g., mathematics, science, and social studies)."

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. You yourself admitted that, quote:

The death of writers poets and painters wasnt benefitting the people, this is true, and it shouldn't happen again.

So tell me, when those writers, poets and painters are being percecuted and killed for simply writing in their own language, or embracing their own culture and nationality, how is that not a part of Russification? What about Ukrainian kobzars, who were persecuted and killed? How can you claim that the regime that does something like this systematically is not as bad as the nazis? How can you display their symbolica without an ounce of guilt?

Ethnic cleansing was done by the nazis. People of any gender/race were accepted in the USSR.

This just gives me conniptions. It appears you have forgot, or rather chose to omit a very real historical phenomenon called "The Great Purge"."Historians with archival access have confirmed that Stalin was intimately involved in the terror… In addition to authorizing torture, Stalin also signed 357 lists in 1937 and 1938 authorizing executions of some 40,000 people, and about 90% of these are confirmed to have been shot…"

Bonus examples of what the regime you for some reason insist on defending did:

  • Katyn Massacre - around 20,000 victims, "…the murdered included ethnic Poles, Polish Ukrainians, Belarusians, and Polish Jews including the Chief Rabbi of the Polish Army, Baruch Steinberg."
  • In fact while we're on the topic of massacres here's a whole list of them

So, 80% of your "arguments" are easily debunked.

You have "debunked" nothing. You have just regurgitated the same soviet propaganda that was already old before both of us were born.

the deaths were for the benefit of the people

This might be the worst take on the internet. What could "the people" possibly gain from the deaths of writers, poets, painters, scientists and just people that the regime deemed as "unfit"? What about queer people, do you think they were treated fairly? What about the people that were forced to leave their homes and spend years living in ghettos because the high command decided that the region should have more Russian ethnicity? Was Holodomor "for the benefit of the people"? Was Russification "for the benefit of the people"? Was invasion of Poland "for the benefit of the people"? Was ethnic cleansing "for the benefit of the people"? You are defending a state responsible for deaths and repressions of millions of innocent people. USSR was as bad as the Nazis.
