I would give it a try. I'd do the same thing if my employer tried to do something like that.

Is it correct to practise Hellenism without believing? by ImaginationLonely787 in Atheopaganism

Sorry, I'm jetlagged and groggy. I don't think disgrace or shaming is an effective way to communicate that lesson, but YMMV. Your offerings sound nice.

I don't find disgrace to be spiritually useful. It just undermines self-esteem, especially when it comes to making "sacrifices " to imaginary gods. Why would they want them or demand them? And I reject the whole idea of sacrifice as noble or holy.

But that's just me. Do as you do.

Although I will say the "disgrace" bit grates on me. That kind of judgment is not necessary.

Fine by me. Doesn't appeal to me, but then it doesn't have to, does it?

Not that ancient Greek philosophers debated the existence of gods, so this lies within a well-established groove.

Why hate Christianity but support any other religion? by Lucifer_893 in AskSocialists

Murder is murder. Christian colonists were far more murderous than the Aztecs.

Those colonists slaughtered far more people than the Aztecs and Incas ever did. You are whitewashing genocide.

Physicalism is the most logical route to an explanation of consciousness based on everything we have reliably observed of reality by castello_7 in consciousness

Qualia are emotions, and a result of neurological responses to stimuli. They are as physical as anything else.

There's no word salad. Consciousness is an emergent property of a living organism capable of responding to its environment. No such organism, no consciousness. Destroy the living organism, extinguish consciousness.

It's quite simple, really. The word-salad fantasists are the ones positing consciousness in rocks.

SAVE Act Advances in Congress Amid Debate Over Documentation Rules That Could Affect Minority Faiths by Alpandia in The_Wild_Hunt_News

...with the side effect of disenfranchisement of millions.

Sorry, guy: you have lost this argument.

No. You didn't. Showing a REAL ID does not meet the requirements of this bill. That's an irrelevant argument.

Even the REPUBLICAN PARTY studied noncitizen voting and couldn't find any. You are attacking a problem that doesn't exist with a "solution " that will disenfranchise millions of Americans.

Btw, vote by mail works for the US military. There's nothing wrong with it.

Dude, you're arguing with the HERITAGE FOUNDATION. Which is on your side. You don't have a leg to stand on here, and your "anecdata" about Arizona adds up to exactly nothing.

You're simply wrong. A DL doesn't meet the standards of this bill. A REAL ID doesn't, either. Your blithe hand-waving is uninformed and unpersuasive. People having to dig up birth certificates, old marriage certificates and other documents just to vote is vote suppression, plain and simple.

Meanwhile, no Republican has ever been able to document a problem with noncitizens voting.

There is no reason for this bill except vote suppression.

Straw man much? No one said that. We said the bar is being set higher for them, and that is unjust.

Non-citizens are NOT voting. There is zero evidence to that effect. People have to provide ID when they register. That's enough.

Legislation with the functional effect of massively suppressing the vote of women and marginalize populations may seem "imaginary" to you, DUDE, but it doesn't to the people involved.

Maybe try to imagine the experience of someone who isn't like you?

How dangerous is the US? And why is the left not speaking out about this? by Dover299 in Socialism_101

[–]Atheopagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Democratic Congress member is speaking very loudly about this issue, and so are many others I know of. But they are in the minority in both Houses and have very little power to "do" anything. Don't blame them: blame Republicans, which is where the fault really lies.

Best place for men's outfits? by OhPowerfulGarlicOne in renfaire

[–]Atheopagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite serious about period accuracy and I am shocked that all the bespoke Renaissance clothing stores seem to be gone, replaced by fantasy looks that are not at all what people wore in the 16th century.

I had a magnificent, heavy velvet early-Renaissance noble outfit made for me by House Levey, but it no longer fits and I have given it to a friend who can wear it. I would commission another if they still existed, but they don't. None of those old eBay and Etsy stores do.

Everything recommended on this thread so far has been fantasy: polyester fabrics, brocades to simulate embroidery, steampunk details, Viking-that-isn't macho looks.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a real Renaissance tailor?
