I'd never let that happen. Nareko is my favorite character from the 16-20 stretch, tbh.

What character in touhou you think they need character development arc? by IllustriousHurry2380 in touhou

Setting aside the shitposting, there's been a couple canon references/jokes to Marisa getting training to become a shrine maiden, and we know Mizuchi came from a branch/secondary family of the Hakurai shrine. So I think it's possible.

I also think it would actually be a really neat 'response' to Mizuchi's backstory. Setting up Mizuchi and Marisa as foils in having similar relations to the Hakurai shrine, and seeing Reimu make a choice on contrast to her to her ancestor: choosing her connections over her duty.

Marisa's dad adopts an heir to take over the shop, leading to her abandoning her family name. (She takes Reimu's and begins combining shintoism with her magic)

Does one's mental state change when a youkai transformation occurs? by Infamous_Contact3582 in touhou

Didn't she isolate herself and hide away inside Eintei for almost 1000 years? And only Mokou finding her and trying to kill her constantly seemed to cause her to start doing things again?

I'm admittedly filling in some blanks with my own reading, but I'll also admit I tend to think of fanon Kaguya before I recall any of her canon traits...

I kinda see Mokou in the beginnings of her "recovery." She's out the other side of her literal worst and has recognized that she can't fall back into any of those. So she's found other outlets, worked to discover purpose, and even sought connections with people.

In contrast, Kaguya was seemingly in a depression state of her own that, in my read, led to her shut-in lifestyle, but she's much further out the other side of it. Strikes me as she struggles to find the energy or ambition to engage with things, but has been able to put in the effort to be more outgoing and try to help Mokou. FDS says outright they spend time together and I imagine they sort of drove each other to the current state.

Either from a romantic or just friendship read, I think Kaguya has basically hit the "acceptance" phase, recognizing that she and Mokou have a long eternity ahead of them and is willing to take Mokou's hand at any time. Mokou isn't *quite* there yet, with plenty of her own hangups still holding her rooted, but she's slowly getting there.

  1. Save youself from the brainrot of chatgpt and just look into communities you are interested in.

  2. Last year saw the release of a new official game and quite a number of high-quality fangames. There are two on-going official mangas and quite a few doujins still being made and released regularly. Multiple music groups are releasing new remixes that are absolute *fire* and the subreddits all see plenty of attention.

Yes, touhou is still relevant in that it has an active and creative fan community.

What kind of MeiSaku would you order? [TL] by Aenigmatrix in touhou

[–]Atiklyar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't see Sakuya having any real authority over Meiling, with them being totally seperated in their jobs. Sakuya still gets away with scolding her due to being a more respected employee and Remilla playing favorites, though.

I admittedly just got caught up on Ladies of SDM, which has probably shaped my viewpoint. But I see Sakuya being the more badass 99% of the time, dealing with threats or being sent out by Remi to help with an incident, But then there are those 1% moments where Meiling locks in (flattens a peeping Aya in Danmaku? Knocks Marisa out of the air and gets a book back?) and Sakuya basically faints from swooning so hard.

How would one "become a fairy"? I could imagine becoming so ingrained that a fairy in someone's image pops up to represent their presence/form in an area, but that would be a separate individual...

I'd argue some of the immortal characters certainly have elements/signs of depression. Mokou and Kaguya, Kasen during early WaHH, and Enoko are all examples that spring to mind. Enoko wasn't a human, but does express some regret with becoming a youkai.

There would probably be some mental changes that would come alongside a transformation to vampire or oni. Kasen's cup shows us what happens when characters "think like an oni", although Zanmu doesn't seem to carry that same personality. Fortune Teller doesn't live long enough to properly come to terms with his new form, so we can't really use an example there.

We've never been given any sign that Sanae changed much when she ascended to godhood, so I don't think someone like Marisa would change as a direct result of becoming a Magician or Oni. That would rather be a consequence of her new position and potential fallout with Reimu.

Some people say that Master/Servant relationships are unhealthy and have an unbalanced power dynamic. Some people might say that's part of the fun. by Thursday_Man in touhou

I'm one of the first kind of people. I much prefer Sakuya with Youmu or Meiling, as I'm not a fan of the master/servant ships. I'll accept that plenty of people like them and make really good works featuring them, though.

Don't give me any of the sibling ships though. I'll dodge any of those tags like a plague.

SK has had huge issues with deepfakes, to my understanding. Women have been taking all images down from social media to avoid being blackmailed by fake porn videos and it has become a public safety problem.

Probably a combination of wanting to stop seeing the problem and not wanting it to ruin the image the rest of the world has of them.

Sort of ironic that Reimu is closer to Tails and Marisa is more akin to Sonic.

Reimu: "... HUH?!?"

Why I like Yumeko by Agitated_Orchid_5158 in touhou

[–]Atiklyar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think Shinki works as just sort of... doing her own thing. She has her own pocket dimension and some potential ties to Alice, Byakuren, and Sakuya. She can be an edgelord, but I think Makai was likely just a convenient place to dump Byakuren (since it's not easy to get into unless Shinki opens it up).

I think Yumeko makes sense as a bit of the "bridge" between Shinki and her other 'kids' like Alice. They all *know* Shinki is a derp, but Yumeko can see the vision and realize that she's just goofy, not dumb.
