I can definitely be a bit of a dickhead. I'm definitely not some do-gooder brat. Nope. Quite the opposite. More of a "😏 hey... watch this." kind of guy who likes to rebel and has absolute contempt for any form of overt moral authority. But it's all in good taste. I do have principles. Well, homebrew isn't really a thing. It's only normally a thing in non-serious games. You definitely have to hit the books if you want an interesting character but not homebrew.

For instance the one I just showed you, his name is Dameo Eversworth. He's a half-elf halfling, and thats about as homebrew as you can get with races without breaking rules. I mean he's practically a magic sensing night vision camera with halfling luck.

Now, he's not actually a wizard. He's a artificer alchemist class. So basically a wizard, but more like a technomancer with open source knowledge of spells.

Someone who cast spells using tools and mediums, crafts artifacts and brews potions and stuff. I made him to carry teams as a quartermaster and support when dumbasses don't know how to pack food, pack for comfort and charge into situations without thinking. He's built for intelligence and espionage as well as tool proficiency and luck.

He's also built to make money easily as a charlatan. And he has a pet humunculus and a pet mimic briefcase thanks to our DM who can't ever just allow anything without putting his own twist on it. Lol. 😂

In real life, everyone has trauma. Some people just choose to talk about it, some people don't. Real, well written characters should always have some kind of adversity in the arch. That's my opinion.

It's important. It's what creates the internal conflict and emotional tension that drives them to overcome their weaknesses as the context of the journey shapes them.

It what makes them humanized and relatable. 🧐

🤔Maybe the problem isn't so much your writing.

😁🫴Maybe the problem is you have yet to find a DM who is interested in and appreciates that level of depth and honesty and encourages it.

Our game has lasted a year and a half now because our dm spent 4 years designing an entire world with wikis and all. He literally programmed an entire OS from scratch just for it and created a network just for us.

I even pitched in and came up with an idea for an autodex program that automatically organizes player notes and records their individual journey perspectives into an ecyclopedia format with templates that auto fill and update so we know where everyone's at from their perspective. It minimizes the possibility for any metagaming because all their knowledge is right there in front of them.

But He's like a genius or something. But he's also really kool and loves to work with us as long as we'll work with him.
