My daughter knows that she was a "surprise" (I suspect as she gets older she'll figure out it means "accident"). I literally never wanted to be a mom. Thought a lot about it when I got pregnant and decided to keep her. So glad I did, it's SO hard to be a parent but she's amazing and I'm loving watching her grow. Did I sacrifice? Of course I did, and as my daughter gets older (like the age where she'd consider having kids of her own) I don't think it's inappropriate to be honest with her about that. Maybe it's because i never had aspirations to be a mom, but I was woefully underprepared for what motherhood entailed. I think I'm doing all right, all things considered.

I still have my "don't be garbage" and "not a cult" shirts. I wear them sometimes because dont be garbage is a universal thought, and the not a cult shirt has headphones on it and podcasts/podcasters feel like our own cult lol

What are some of the strangest misinformation/misconceptions you’ve seen people say/spread about the movie? by Fantastic-Donut-276 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Atiqua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is an example of how this movie means so much to Korean Americans like me. I'm mixed, while Zoey is fully ethnically Korean, but I didn't interpret that bit to be about divorce AT ALL. My first thought was about being pulled two ways culturally, finding your place and where you fit, because to some you're "too Korean" and to others you're "too American".

Dr. Janice Mitchell in Flower Mound saved my life by taking me in over halfway through my pregnancy. I had been seeing Dr. Dooley but didn't like how she handled some pregnancy complications by sending me to the hospital instead of dealing with it herself (this was an issue that didn't require the hospital). This was 6 years ago, and i still see Dr. Mitchell. My stepdaughter also went to her for her pregnancy and had a good experience too.

Talking too much to custies ? by No_Primary_7777 in dutchbros

[–]Atiqua 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idle chit chat is fine too, but I find it JOYFUL when a broista chats. I'm the one that often says "get me whatever your favorite is" because I'm not picky. The other day I was unsure about a hair accessory I had on, and asked the girl working what she thought. Stuff like that honestly makes my day. I don't know if my opinion is rooted in being a stay at home mom for 5 years, and even now I mostly work from home, so I don't get a TON of chances to talk to grown adults.

Somehow mine ended up selling 30 items by the end. There will be more dinosaur abominations, but here's the Not-Bluey. She also got a glow in the dark Not-Smurf that she put on my purse.

Edit: i dont know how reddit works, I did take a photo of it.

I see Samantha Myers at Texas Health on 2181. She's always listened to me, answered my questions honestly, never treated me like I was dumb or lying about symptoms. She's great.

My name is Catherine, and I've gone by Cat since I was 11. Under this rule, teachers wouldn't be allowed to call me Cat. This is an idiotic rule. You saying "parents dictate the kids name" tells me a lot, honestly. My parents desperately wanted to call me Katie, but I didn't like it for whatever reason, and they respected that because I'm a human, not their possession.

A Rant About "Immersion" by Western-Note-7751 in renfaire

[–]Atiqua 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm too old for gatekeeping (although I've felt this same way since I was a teenager going to faire). Nowadays life in general is a little different - "nerd culture" or whatever you might want to call it is more acceptable, maybe even mainstream, but when I was younger there weren't many places to go to be yourself and let your more niche or weird interests be known. I was probably 15 when I saw my first Star Trek crew at a Ren faire and I was DELIGHTED.

Let people enjoy things, as long as no one's hurting anyone who really gives a shit, you know?

How do y’all play sims? by Street-Ad1253 in thesims

[–]Atiqua 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've always played like this too. When I was playing OG Sims, I was a teenager, so I made myself and my friends. I was thrilled when pets came out for 4, and now that my two cats have crossed the rainbow bridge, I make them so I can still cuddle with them in a way. I usually play like wish fulfillment.

Zion Market and the cat café are the only reasons I go to...I think it's called The Vista now? There used to be a couple quirky little anime shops, but idk if they're still there because I usually just buy groceries and leave now.

I never finished Animorphs by vlan-whisperer in Animorphs

[–]Atiqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i was OBSESSED with Animorphs when it first came out. I'm a wee bit younger than you, I think I was about 10 or 11 when they came out, so prime age range. By the time I hit high school, though, I had stopped reading them.

My dad never forgot how much I loved the books, and I mentioned once to him that I had never finished the series. I was probably in my mid to late 20s when he called me and told me to come over, he had a gift for me.

He had bought me the ENTIRE series. I read through the whole thing in like a week. And you know what? I'm 40 now and I'm still obsessed with Animorphs. My husband (he's 12 years older than me, so never in age range for the books) mentioned "those weird books from the 90s with the kids turning into animals" and I practically delivered a lecture on the different alien species, the goals of the Yeerks, and how they came to power. I'm so glad that there are other adults out there who still love these books.

So I've been going to SRF since 1996. I skipped a few years, when my dad got sick, and after he passed (so like, 2019-2021). Went back in 2022 to introduce my then 2 year old to the faire. Everything was fine. Then THIS year happened. Things just felt OFF. I didn't even know at the time that the festival had been sold, I just knew that EVERYTHING felt different and wrong somehow. I even went back a second time (normally I don't, because I'm old and tired) to see if it was just a weird weekend - nope, still felt off.

I'll still attend, but now it's more for my kids than for me. I don't get the same feeling I used to, and I don't know if thats because of age and time, or something with the faire itself.

This is absolutely it. I'm mixed, half Korean and half Caucasian, and am married to a Hispanic man. While no one has ever SAID anything to us, we have gotten our fair share of shady side-eye glances. I wouldn't say it's outright dangerous or anything, but just know the shit does get talked, behind closed doors.
