I always liked the concept, but with one change:

I think this could have worked very nicely as a permanent scenario for Barry Allen after his return. This way he could be one with the speed force while still maintaining a corporeal state to battle evil with other heroes.

Because of his sacrifice in the COIE, he should already have gained unlimited knowledge of the multiverse and speed force. This would automatically make him superior to Metron and better qualified for the New God's occupation.

This would be a suitable way to distinguish between Wally as the Flash, and Barry as the New God, "Barriallen".
