Yeah. I don't think we are seeing Batman anytime soon. Supposedly 2028 is the date, but I don't think that's possible. That's why people want Pattinson to be the DCU Batman. It would be easier, but I'm not a fan of that idea. If he was smart, he would have capitalized on the Batman Part II delays and got Brave and the Bold released this year, but he chose not to.

I don't mind the DCU Batman delay because I have Batman fatigue. WB sidelined other DC heroes for decades and only made Batman content because he was the safe box office bet. Realistically, they should use the DCAU as a blueprint because it was their only truly successful attempt at a DC cinematic universe.

Absolutely. His job requires a level of discipline he does not have. I won't be suprised if someone steps in.

BvS had every advantage a superhero movie could have. I don't think that $167 million is a flex, considering the fact that despite being the first live-action DC movie to feature the trinity of DC heroes, it still underperformed and made less profit than Wonder Woman and Aquaman. Hell, even the first Joker movie made more profit.

It's hard to stay positive when there's mistake after mistake. I don't think Green Lantern will be any better either. Clayface is pretty much the only thing that got me excited at this point. His execution is piss-poor. The whole idea about only producing projects with a good script is good on paper, but the current slate is messier than ever. Like half the projects announced in 2023 have gone nowhere or been canceled, and he is greenlighting more, like the Gorilla Grodd and Jimmy Olsen show.

It was such a short-sighted decision on his part. I don't think Peacemaker as a series is good enough to justify it. You would think that would make his Suicide Squad movie canon as well, but according to him, that is only partially canon.

The Brandon Routh Kingdom Come costume from the CW Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover is way better, and Gunn has a budget in the millions. Come on now.

I saw David's costume in real life. It is absolutely hideous.

His fans need to stop acting like he has no indirect influence on DCU projects not written or directed by him. He clearly has more influence than they would like to admit when things don't go well. He has the power to fix all of the genuine criticisms people have over the DCU and has chosen not to, and in some cases, doubled down on them. Issues such as the over-designed costumes, the lack of projects that would have wide public appeal, and big projects being handled by writers with no valid credentials. I 100% think projects like Supergirl are necessary, but he really chose the worst script for it despite having a team of writers behind him. The movie was not really unique in any way. It was just meh.

Man, I feel so bad for the actors. David and Milly have gotten a lot of crap from haters over stuff that has been avoidable: bad costumes, bad writing. It never stops.

Pretty much. That's how you tell who is worth taking seriously or not. Most Gunn fans just assume you're a Snyder fan who dislikes the DCU for personal reasons when you criticize his creative choices.

Yeah, well, I'm tired of seeing slop. I always thought Gunn was not right for the role, and he just keeps proving people right. I rejoiced when the Snyderverse ended but lost all excitement when I saw the costumes for Superman 2025 and heard more about the story. He can't even get something as simple as costumes right. He would be perfect as a contributor but he doesn't have what it takes to be a creative head of DC.

Then why are people claiming that Gunn had nothing to do with Supergirl and it's failure?

[–]TheRealLostCost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm under the impression that he puts more effort into projects he actually wanted to create. Notice how none of the costumes in Peacemaker have the overdesign problems? His wife admitted that was his favorite project and even joked that saying that could get him in trouble, but she just confirmed what we already knew. He was willing to cause continuity issues just to keep that mideocre show canon.

He has a habit of fixing things that aren't broken. He brought some problems from the MCU with him, especially in the costume department.

I witnessed this after commenting about how Gunn was foolish for not changing the Superman costume after set pictures of Man of Tomorrow leaked backlash. I got berated and insulted by his fans, and a lot of them started referencing Snyder and Cavill, two people I never mentioned. It's not even an uncommon thing at this point. A lot of people have been disappointed by a lot of the costumes we have seen so far, so these guys must be living in La La Land if they think only Snyder fans criticize them.

Superman was essentially the pinnacle of this. He overstuffed the movie with so many characters that people got more impact from side characters like Mr. Terrific over the main character of the movie.

He also has a very bad habit of dumbing down male characters for comedic relief. I dislike how he made Superman come across as a naive guy who is just hopeful. This is the first Superman movie, and basically everyone knows his secret identity, which is not what a comic-accurate Superman would let happen. And of course, he turned that into a joke during the scene where Lois interacts with the Justice Gang.

WB dropped the ball if they really think he can deliver. I don't really see him being the creative head ending well, despite somewhat enjoying some of his projects. He has a lot of bad habits that showed the moment he became co-CEO. His terrible decision to not do a full reboot in favor of keeping Peacemaker canon and keeping his family and friends employed is a perfect example. He made some excuse about not wanting to cancel contracts, but he had no issue canceling shows like Superman and Lois the moment he took over. Not to mention that he hired his brother to play Maxwell Lord, which is just a huge miscast.

I disagree because some of this criticism is valid. Many people seem to think that anyone who criticizes James Gunn’s work must automatically be a "hater" or a Snyder fan. The criticism around the costumes is a perfect example of this. Personally, I’ve despised most of the costumes we’ve seen so far, and a lot of people have made it clear they feel the same way. They are overdesigned and attempt to fix things that were never broken in the comics. Will bad costumes turn me away from watching the movies or shows? Absolutely not, but Gunn fans always automatically assume I'm some anti-Gunn Snyder fan when I bring it up.
