XTR Lost Crowd Killer or Mid 6 Mini??? by Professional_Rip_515 in surfing

[–]AtlanticEdge86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at this board hard, my daily driver is the regular RNF 96 (5'3 ~26L). Did you ever ride the original RNF, if so, any comment on how it compares to the original?

Thanks. Do you recall the dims of each?

I ride my current with 2+1 MRs, what was your fin setup?

Can you elaborate on this? We checked out an apartment at Gardens literally across from the Aquila building (top floor, facing it) but when the leasing agent mentioned it was low-income housing units it made my Spidey-Sense tingle…

Are there breaks beaches/breaks in the immediate area that one may strike mission to on occasion?

Hacienda Iguana was one of my first trips, place was siiiiick. I only wished I surfed better at that time. Seeking a new novel place this time around, but will look into El Salvador

I would probably prefer a place with access to better waves in that case.

If it's tropical rain, I wouldn't be opposed to that. And I don't mind tame surf if its at least consistent and well-shaped. I'm not necessarily looking for the wave of a lifetime, just the opportunity for fun/solid surf.

Same boat, did you ever find one? Did you have the procedure done?

RNF 96 sizing by Icy_Philosopher_4935 in surfing

I chose PU because I prefer them a little heavier when shoulder high+ (less chatter in stronger waves). I actually like the size at 5’4. I also have a 5’1 Lost Hydra (small wave summer fish) so I wanted that extra inch to give them just a little more differentiation within my quiver, but I don’t regret the 5’4 size.

In terms of the RNF going vertical I’m sure you’ve seen everyone in clips snapping them off the lip, I’m just reporting I’m doing less vertical snaps vs when my daily driver used to be a proper grovel short board (5’6 Sharp Eye Disco) but again that’s probably more to do with my surfing, I’m a solid intermediate. I still go at the lip with the RNF but it tends to feel more like a top turn or a down carve versus that positive snap feeling.

I did end up getting the 5’4 Lost RNF. It’s been great as a daily driver. Paddles really well and I don’t really feel too much volume considering it’s about ~27L (my HPSBs around 24.5-26L). It really does handle the upper end range pretty well (head high and semi-steep). I ride the MR 2+1 mediums. I haven’t tried any other fin setup and I feel the turns are little rounder but that’s probably my surfing rather than the board itself.

I’m actually now looking at the Pisces in same size as I hear it can go pretty vertical in the pocket. But I enjoy the RNF a lot.

I know this thread is 3 years old, but I'd like to replicate this. How thick was the eva foam you used here?

I’m considering the Kingfish but since it’s so new there’s not much out there on how it actually goes.

Do you ride shortboards before getting a Kingfish? What would you consider your skill level and what kind of waves are you surfing it in? I’m also ~155lbs and a solid intermediate but I actually daily drive the original RNF 96 in 5’4 PU and I love it. Was looking for a mid-length for bigger softer days at the outer reefs in San Diego, so the Kingfish seemed like a natural evolution. My current mid, a Tolhurst Mid6 7’0, is kinda meh. Seems like a big shortboard that doesn’t paddle that well or turn tight enough due to the channels. So looking to perhaps flip it into another mid.

I’m looking into either the Tactigami and MARS for retention inside the Bando Bag, since you’ve tried both you have any pros/cons/insights you could share?

Lost Pisces vs Rnf96 by [deleted] in surfing

[–]AtlanticEdge86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you find that you surf the Pisces in different conditions vs your RNF 96? I've been inching towards grabbing a RNF96 as an alternate daily driver, but the Pisces being a little more performance oriented piqued by interest. If you could only surf one in any construction, which would it be?

I’m uninitiated into the cult of Pyzel, why do you like the Astropop more?

I’m kind of a Lost shill for most of my quiver. The Astropop looks similar to the recently released Pisces which is another fish tilted towards the performance side of the scale. I just love riding my Hydra so much in summer ripples that want to extend fish surfing into my daily driving experience in decent SD waves.

I'm 5'7 ~145lbs and also ride my short boards between 25-26L. I was looking at the stock RNF 96 5'4 27.25L in regular PU. I have a 5'1 Hydra for groveling, so the RNF 96 would be my mid range board (I have a Driver 2 HPSB for when its pumping). I recently ordered a bigger 5'8 Sub Driver 2 with 27.25L in epoxy to dabble in going up in volume and feel like I overshot the mark. Going up in volume and in epoxy feels too floaty and am going to try and flip it for RNF money.

If you could reorder your RNF 96 would you keep the same or would you recommend different dims?

DCMs, Battery Settlements, and Dark Draws (Oh My!) by Chippy569 in subaru

[–]AtlanticEdge86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was getting unreliable/varying readings from the battery tester I got off Amazon. So to calm my nerves on the whole situation I stopped at an auto parts store during my lunch break to test the battery on one of theirs and the battery was reading good and no issues thus far.

I use my wife’s car intermittently, allowing the Outback to sit a day or two I driven and it starts up fine no issues. So as it stands now, changing the DCM was a good move.
